Nice new field hockey website launched, a lot of work went into this website and it clearly paid off. Well done to InterPro Management Chair, David Caren for all his work on this website. And also to Maeliosa Kyne and her team.

Leinster Hockey get a Makeover

Leinster Hockey (Field Hockey) are using Sportlomo since 2012, Leinster Hockey are one of our longest league partnerships. This season they have decided to boost their online presence by redesigning their website to be mobile responsive.

Working closely with the Leinster Executive Officer Claire Kelly – Sportlomo have reduced the number of web pages that existed on the old site by condensing their Competition and Club structure by using our new responsive display system.

6,000 England Hockey elite players registered

In the 2017-2018 season Sportlomo alongside their partner England Hockey created a new player registration system for the England hockey League elite divisions of Investec Premier League and their National conference leagues. To date almost 6000 elite players were registered on the Sportlomo system for these competitions and detailed membership records were captured for all of these players such as team sheets, player movement, player appearances and player match statistics.

That number is only going to get bigger this season with England Hockey already starting to roll the system down to the lower levels of England Championship hockey. With over 1000 clubs across the UK its a huge undertaking.

The main difference with this Non-EHL competition roll out is the approval process does not have to include the old club, player and England Hockeys approval before the registration/transfer is complete. Non-EHL will only need the old clubs approval for the players to switch club – if the player is required to move up to EHL level the ability to promote the player has now been created.

Next season again there will be more new features added such as guest player and starred player features in phase 3.

Tauranga Hockey in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Sportlomo would like to welcome our latest hockey client. Tauranga hockey which is in the largest city in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand’s North Island. Sportlomo will run their Competition and Umpire Management for the 2018 season.

Tauranga Hockey Association Background

The association currently has two turfs. One named Port as it located close to the Port of Tauranga and the other Beach as it is closer to Mount Maunganui beach. There is a cafe based on site called Finger and Fork who open during competitions and games.

‘HOCKEY FOR LIFE and as a SPORT FOR ALL’

This is a key strategic goal of Tauranga Hockey Association and one that has shown considerable success during 2017 with growth in youth participation numbers and the high participation numbers involved in summer hockey competition formats.

Tauranga Hockey’s participation numbers also reflect a gender balance which is extremely positive with 1893 females and 1865 males taking part. THA also has a strong Master’s section with five teams participating at National Championships.

Participation growth has created significant impact on game development programmes across all pathways for both Tauranga Hockey locally as well as Hockey New Zealand nationally. Hockey New Zealand has undertaken a robust strategic review, the outcomes of their process will help to provide a national perspective.

A recent initiative was to appoint an Officiating Development Officer, this was in recognition of the importance of that recruitment, training and retention of umpires and officials. This officer will drive the process and work with the volunteer committee.

The success of their locally grown BlackSticks players and officials in 2017 played a big part in inspiring young players and growing the Association as a whole.

President of Tauranga Hockey, Gill Gemming, in her President’ Address explains “there are challenges ahead to keep up with the growth. Facility pressures, the need for more volunteer coaches and umpires and the ability to maximise the turf usage, with more creative thinking resulting in different competitions formats to cater for individuals with busy schedules that wish to play socially or over a limited timeframe”.

Also Gill says “There will be a challenge for the clubs to be more proactive in their recruitment of the new players settling in our region and linking with the developing tertiary education sector, as well as improving school club links to identify those players who are staying in the area”.

England Hockey announces appointment of SportLoMo

Following a recent tender process, England Hockey is delighted to confirm the appointment of SportLoMo as the provider of its Competitions Management System. View official announcement on England Hockey website.

It is an exciting time for England Hockey competitions as the outcome of recent reviews will see a redeveloped adult and junior competitions programme, designed to meet the needs of players and organizers.

This is both in terms of depth, with tiered competitions to cater for increased numbers of young players of different abilities, and enhanced adult competitions activity offering different ways to play the game and at different times of the year; further details of which will be announced in March.

The Competition Management System will consolidate and drive all elements and stages of the England Hockey competition programme including entries, registration, management, delivery and results. It will also be embedded within our social media platforms to provide an engaging experience for our players, officials, competition deliverers and fans. The system will be introduced for the 2017-18 season.

SportLoMo is based in Ireland and is a leading provider of software to sports bodies with particular understanding of grass roots sports. They work with national and regional bodies in Ireland and other countries for numerous sports including hockey, basketball, rugby and Gaelic sports. They pride themselves on their ability to understand the needs of clubs, players and administrators in particular

Speaking about their appointment, Seamus Kyne, CEO of SportLoMo said

“We are very proud to be selected to partner with one of England’s most prestigious and high-profile sports. Our work with sports both at regional and national level gives us a terrific insight into the technology needs of sports and we very much look forward to working with England Hockey.”

Commenting on the news, Stephen Barlow, Competitions Manager at England Hockey said

We have analysed the future requirements for our Competition Management System in detail and followed a robust process to ensure that potential providers could understand what will meet our needs. We were impressed with the enthusiasm and expertise of SportLoMo and the competition management systems they already have in place. We look forwards to working with them”

England Hockey has partnered with Fixtures Live to deliver its competitions programme since 2001 and this decision brings to an end 16 years of working together on this. England Hockey wishes to place on record its thanks to David Lloyd Williams and his colleagues at Fixtures Live for their support during this time.

Regional and County leagues who use the Fixtures Live platform may of course remain with them although opportunities to work with the new Competition Management System will exist too.
