Dublin will be playing in their eighth Leinster final at U-21 level after defeating Kilkenny in the semi final, while Wexford are competing for the provincial title for the first time in six years. Dublin caused a major surprise when they powered to a five-point victory over holders Kilkenny in the Bord Gais Energy Leinster U-21 Hurling semi-final at Nowlan Park on 23rd June with a final scoreline of Dublin 0-17 Kilkenny 0-12. After beating Offaly in the previous round, the Cats were going for a three-in-a-row of provincial successes this year, but Richard Stakelums Dublin put an end to this chance with a great win in the semi-final.
Wexford are through to the final after a four point win, but only after they survived a late scare from underdogs Carlow in the semi-final at Wexford Park. Wexford, under the management of Tony Dempsey, were dominant in the opening half but after a good Carlow comeback in the 2nd half the match finished Wexford 2-17 Carlow 2-13.
