There was bonfires burning brightly over the weekend in three parishes as the last 3 county championships were decided. The Swan Leisure U21A final turned out to be a cracker, in which a powerful team performance saw Craughwell defeat holders and favourites St. Thomas'. The sides were level at 0-7 to 0-7 at the interval, but Craughwell took control in the second half and led by 2-13 to 0-11 with 5 minutes to go. Although they looked home and dry, good champions never go down without a fight and that is exactly what St. Thomas did. They...

Saturday 08th December, 2012

St. Thomas and Craughwell will face each other tomorrow in Kenny Park, Athenry to decide the outcome of this years SWAN LEISURE U21 A Hurling Championship. Both sides have been impressive on reaching this decider, and both host strong panels with plenty of senior experience. St. Thomas are the defending champions after their great win last year, and field many players that featured in their historic senior final win over Loughrea last month. Craughwell also field many players who fielded and beat Sarsfields in the Senior Shield win...

Junior A Final preview by "Wingback"

Friday 07th December, 2012

On Sunday in Pearse Stadium we should find out who will be crowned Junior A Champions for 2012. It brings together two very good teams who are there on pure merit as their results and performances have shown all year. Will the men of Loughrea bounce straight back up to Intermediate where they came down from last year, or will the truly amazing revival of hurling in Barna/Furbo bring them a second Junior title in three years and more importantly Intermediate hurling next year. Conditions might not be the best this time of year but Pearse...

After a dramatic finish in the first game in Ballinasloe, when Killimor scored a free deep in injury time to secure a well earned draw against Ardrahan, the sides will meet again on Saturday in Duggan Park to see who will prevail to be Junior B Champions for 2012. I went to the first game and while it wasn't free flowing to look at it was dramatic and exciting for the supporters on each side. The scoreline at 0-7 to 0-7 will speak for itself as scores were indeed very hard to come by and both sides will be disappointed with their shooting, and more...
