Division 2 National League Round 5
Kerry 3-16 Waterford 5-9
Waterford faced Kerry in round 5 of the Bord Gáis National League on Sunday last 11th March. On this occasion the Waterford girls suffered a cruel 1 point defeat in the dying minutes of the game following a great performance. They faced one of the top 4 senior teams in the country in Castleisland Desmonds GAA grounds in Kerry. The Kerry girls started well shooting their first point 30 seconds from the throw in. They added 3 points to this before Waterford got off the mark with 2 points from wing forward Linda Wall. Kerry continued to add point after point with Waterford having very little possession. Then an Aileen Wall goal kick started Waterford into action starting a 10 minute period of dominance in which they scored 3 goals, the 2 other goals coming from young star corner forward Hannah Landers. Kerry composed themselves however and notched further points on the board to get back into the game. Another goal from Aileen Wall brought Waterford to half time with a lead of 5 points. The half time score line was Waterford 4-5 Kerry 0-12.
Soon after the half time break Kerry were awarded a penalty that was taken and missed by Deirdre Corrigan. After this miss Kerry really stormed into the game and it was a thrilling, hard fought second half that had physical battles all over the field. Waterford then suffered a blow with the sin-binning of midfielder Elaine Power. Now down to 14 players Waterford had an uphill battle to stay in the game. In the final quarter of the game a Michelle Ryan free came to Linda Wall who goaled from close range to put Waterford ahead by a single point. Kerry never gave up the battle however and in the final minute a stray pass in the Waterford full back line fell to Dierdre Corrigan who made no mistake this time and goaled to put Kerry 2 points ahead. There was time for one more Waterford attack and a great point was scored by substitute Mags Revins, this was just not enough and Waterford fell short by the narrowest of margins. Waterford midfielder Elaine Power was awarded player of the match following the game which is a testament to the fine performance of the Waterford girls. This has been the 4th defeat in 5 games for the Waterford Ladies but 3 of these defeats were against senior teams and were very close. Work rate and fitness are improving from week to week and the team's performance is improving which is encouraging to all involved. The next two games against Cavan and Tipperary will decide Waterford's fate in Division 2. In round 6 of the national league Waterford will take on intermediate rivals Cavan on Saturday next 17th March at 2pm in Fraher Field.

U-14 Munster Championship
Waterford 6-6 Limerick 2-8
Waterford U-14's had a great win against Limerick on Sunday last 11th March in Bruff, Co.Limerick. The goal scorers were Kate McGrath (1g), Megan Dunford (1g), Denise O' Connor (2g), Aoife Murray (2g). Waterford will now face Tipperary in the next round of the competition.
Waterford 2-9 Fermanagh 2-7
An Aileen Wall goal in the sixty third minute of the match gave Waterford all three points in the fourth Round Bord Gais National League tie against Fermanagh in Fraher Field on Sunday.
The opening half was a ragged affair with neither team finding any real rhythm. Referee Richie O'Connor's reluctance to let teams play when they had the advantage added to the stop, start nature of the game.
A point on 8 minutes from Michelle Ryan opened the scoring. Indeed Ryan's place kicking was one of the highlights of the game as she kept the scoreboard ticking for Waterford throughout the match.
Fermanagh leveled the score on 8 minutes when Caroline little pointed a free from close range, the first of 5 (4f) for the Lisnaskea player in the first half. Fermanagh's, Marcella Monahan, got her sides opening goal when she waltzed through the Waterford defence to score from close range. Aileen and Linda Wall were the other scorers for Waterford as they trailed by 1-5 to 0-5 at the half time break.
Waterford were rocked by a second Fermanagh goal early in the second half. This seem to wake the Waterford team up and they began to play much better. Four (2f) points from Michelle Ryan, narrowed the gap to 2 points, before Elaine Power scored a fine individual goal to put Waterford in front for the first time in the match.
Caroline Little scored from a free as the match entered the final minutes to level the score and Fermanagh regained the lead when the Waterford net minder, Aimee Jordan, palmed the ball over the bar from another powerful shot from Little.
Deep in added time a long ball over the top found Aileen Wall and the Ballymacabry girl finished in style to give Waterford the match.
The new Waterford team kit was launcehed today for the first time. Waterford LGFA are delighted that Al Eile Stud are on board as sponsors for 2012. The new kits was designed by the players themselves and have been very well received. Well done to everyone involved.

Waterford 3-10 Mayo 3-13
In their best performance to date Waterford Ladies lost out narrowly to table toppers Mayo, in the third round of the Bord Gais National League, played in Kilmacthomas on Sunday.
Waterford opened the scoring on six minutes when a long cross field ball found the unmarked Roisin Tobin and the Abbeyside player sprinted 50 metres to score the opening point of the game. The Waterford backs had started well against their Senior opposition, however a rare mix up in full back line let Mayo's young Sarah Crowe in for Mayo's opening goal.
Mayo hit a purple patch over the next ten minutes with Cora Staunton adding four points (2f) to her teams tally to leave 6 points between the teams. A Linda Wall point on fifteen minutes started a Waterford mini revival which was added too by Elaine Power and Michelle Ryan to reduce the gap to 3 points.
The Waterford defence was holding strong with Karen McGrath doing particularly well at centre back on Staunton. Despite the excellent discipline of the Waterford defenders, Staunton was on hand to put over another free to widen the gap to 4 points on twenty minutes.
Waterford gained a measure of control in the final ten minutes of the first half and Mayo were rocked by two goals from Ballyduff Minor, Hannah Landers, and a point from Michelle Ryan putting Waterford into a three point lead. Mayo came back with two Staunton points (1f) to narrow the gap to a single point. As the match entered injury time points from Elaine Power and Aileen Wall saw Waterford take a deserved 3 point lead into the half time break. (H.T Waterford 2-7 Mayo 1-7)
An injury to Eibhlis Cooney early in the second half resulted in Waterford's first substitution of the match with Aoife McGovern replacing Cooney at corner back. An Aileen Wall point on 35 minutes increased Waterford's lead to four points.
Mayo, as you would expect of a senior team, increased the intensity of the game all over the field and when they managed to get through the resolute Waterford defense, Sarah Crowe was on hand to shoot from close range for her second goal. Three further Staunton points (1f) put Mayo back into the lead.
Waterford were awarded a penalty for a foul on Hannah Landers, which Michelle Ryan converted to put Waterford back into the lead. Eimear Fennell increased Waterford's lead to two points mid-way through the second half with a well taken point.
Mayo responded with a Staunton goal on 50 minutes and followed with three further points to finish the game with a personal tally of 1-13 (6f) and put Mayo into a four point lead. Waterford to their credit hit back with a further point from Hannah Landers. Despite intense pressure in the final minutes of the game Waterford were unable to breach the Mayo defence. (F.T Waterford 3-10 mayo 3-13)
This was a an excellent team performance with outstanding performances from the younger girls, Aoife Landers, Karen McGrath, Roisin Tobin, Hannah Landers, Aileen Wall and Eimear Fennell.
The next match is against Fermanagh in two weeks and a win for Waterford would be a tremendous boost to the girls and get their season moving onto the front foot.

Clare 0-18 Waterford 1-8
Waterford Intermediate Ladies took on Clare in the first round of the Bord Gáis Energy National League on Sunday last 5th Feb. A young team with a lot of new faces travelled the long journey to Doonbeg, to face a strong Clare team. In cold, wet conditions Waterford made a good start matching Clare in the opening stages. The Waterford defence was extremely tight, cutting off many attacks Michelle McGrath, Karen McGrath and Elaine power providing the links between defence and attack. The half time score was Clare 0-9 Waterford 0-5, Waterford's scores coming from Michelle Ryan (3pts), Linda Wall (1pt) and Trish Fitzgerald (1pt).
In the second half Clare started strongly, the Considine sisters Ailish and Eimear were clinical in front of goal widening the gap between the teams to 7pts. Waterford were working extremely hard and were very unfortunate not to score a goal when Michelle Ryan's powerful shot came back off the crossbar. Work-rate was high and Waterford kept attempting to close the gap however Clare were fast on the counter attach and notched up a further 6pts. In the last 10 minutes however Clare began to tire and Waterford put in a really strong finish scoring 3 points in a row Michelle Ryan (1pt) and Linda Wall (2pts). Roisin Tobin then made a huge run from defence all the way to the Clare penalty area finally being pulled down to gain Waterford a penalty. This was scored by Michelle Ryan and the final score stood Clare 0-18 Waterford 1-8.
Team: Aimee Jordan, Nora Dunphy, Gráinne Enright, Eibhlis Cooney, Elaine Power, Roisin Tobin, Aoife Landers, Michelle McGrath, Karen McGrath, Trish Fitzgerald, Linda Wall, Mairead Wall, Aoife McGovern, Michelle Ryan, Hannah Landers. Post Primary Senior C Final
St Augustine's 3-9 1-7 Presentation Clonmel
This PP Senior School's Final , played in St Mollerans, Carrickbeg on Saturday last was a highly entertaining and competitive match , with St Augustine's edging the match in the final fifteen minutes of the match.
Presentation Clonmel made the early running and an unstoppable shot from Karen McGrath into the top corner of the net on 6 minutes gave the Presentation an early lead. St Augustine's responded immediately and a flowing move involving backs and forwards, was finished off by their impressive full forward Emer Fennell, when she pointed from 25 metres.
Presentation lost possession from the resulting kick out and the ball was moved quickly into Fennell, who calmly finished to the back of the net to give St Augustine's the lead. On 11 minutes St Augustine's increased their lead when Fennel got her second goal of the match following a well struck 45 from Fiona Morrissey.
Presentation Clonmel reacted to this setback in very positive fashion and dominated the remainder of the first half. Presentation kicked three successive wides, before Courtney Lonergan pointed on 17 minutes. This was followed by points by Danielle Hallahan (0-2), Aileen Wall (0-2) and Kelly McGrath.
A second Fennell point in the final minute of the half, left Presentation Clonmel ahead by the narrowest of margins at half time.
H.T. Presentation Clonmel 1-6 St Augustine's 2-2
St Augustine's made some tactical switches at half time with Shannon Dunford and Liz Devine coming into the forwards for Chloe Lake and Mairead Walsh. St Augustine's retook the lead on 31 minutes when their captain Fiona Morrissey kicked a long range free that dropped under the cross bar for a goal.
An outstanding second half display by the St Augustine's defence was the cornerstone for this win. Time after time backs , midfielders and forwards got back into defensive positions to frustrate the Presentation forwards.
An injury to Katie Whyte saw the introduction of Megan Dunford early in the second half. A well taken point from the Presentation's centre forward, Emer Lyons on 36 minutes narrowed the gap to a single point, before Liz Devine's point on 39 minutes increased the Friary's lead again.
The Presentation captain, Aileen Wall with Danielle Hallahan, Karen McGrath and Courtney Lonergan, were the main attacking threats, but despite their best efforts they were unable to break through the Friary defence for that all important goal.
St Augustine's finished the match very strongly with points from Clodagh Ryan (2), Shannon Dunford (2), Emer Fennel (1f) and Megan Dunford in the last quarter of the match. At the final whistle St Augustine's were deserved winners on a score line of St Augustine's 3-9 Presentation Clonmel 1-7
There were numerous candidates for player of the match including Aileen Wall and Karen McGrath from the Presentation Clonmel and Emer Fennel and Caoimhe McGrath from St Augustine's. The award went to Caoimhe McGrath for her outstanding display at midfield and Marie Halvey, Munster Secretary, presented the Player of the Match trophy to a delighted Caoimhe.

TG4 Intermediate Championship
Cavan 1-12 Waterford 0-8
Waterford's quest to get back to Croke Park came to an abrupt and disappointing end in Lavey, County Cavan on Sunday, when they were comprehensively beaten by a determined Cavan side. Despite a man of the match display by Grainne Kennealy at centre back, Waterford were unable to handle the intensity of the Cavan players, especially their back line who were uncompromising in their defending.
Waterford were on the scoreboard after two minutes with a Michelle Ryan free. Cavan kicked a wide before their full forward, Clara Reilly, got Cavan's opening score to level the match.
Saves by Cavan's goalkeeper, Christine McCutcheon, from Michelle Ryan and Elaine Power denied Waterford what looked like certain goals. On seven minutes Ryan put Waterford back in front with a well taken point.
Cavan responded with points from Bronagh Sheridan and a second Reilly point on twelve minutes. Waterford were dominating play and the Cavan goal was living a charmed life as Trish Fitzgerald goal attempt went narrowly wide and Ryan hit the cross bar with the goalkeeper well beaten.
Cavan made the most of their good fortune and increased their lead with points from Aishling Doonan (f) and Elaine Costin on twenty four minutes. Waterford hit the Cavan cross bar again before Ryan got Waterford's third score of the game on twenty nine minutes from a free after Linda Wall had been unceremoniously pulled to the ground as she went for goal.
Waterford narrowed the gap to a single point deep in injury time in the first half with points from Ryan (f) and Linda Wall. Cavan's Elaine Costin got the final score of the half to leave the score at half time Cavan 0-7 Waterford 0-5.
Waterford kicked their sixth wide of the game in the opening minute of the second half. Two minutes later a long pass to the unmarked Brid Boylan resulted in a penalty as she was fouled as she bore down on goal. Bronagh Sheridan scored from the penalty spot to give Cavan a five point lead.
Cavan extended their lead with points from Doonan (f) and Reilly before Waterford's Ryan reduced the deficit on forty and forty five minutes with two pointed frees. An Aileen Wall got Waterford's final score on fifty two minutes.

TG4 Intermediate Championship
Waterford 3-10 Westmeath 2-7
Waterford continued their good form in the TG4 Intermediate Championship, with a convincing six point win over table toppers Westmeath in St Molleran's on Sunday. A blistering start by Waterford that yielded two early goals and a game plan that dealt adequately with Westmeath's tactics of employing a sweeper were the key to this win.
Goals from Sinead Ryan and Linda Wall and a point from Michelle Ryan in the opening five minutes of the match saw Waterford storm into an early lead. These scores were just reward for the work rate of the forwards in the opening quarter of the match as they made life very difficult for the Westmeath defence.
Westmeath's first attack on the Waterford goal on seven minutes saw Waterford's keeper Aimee Jordan deal with a powerful shot from Claude Ann Foley at the near post. A minute later Westmeath's Karen Hegarty pushed a long range attempt wide.
On thirteen minutes Jordan caught a long range attempt as it dropped under the bar, however her clearance went to Westmeath's Johanna Maher, who beat her marker and kicked accurately from thirty metres to register Westmeath's opening score.
A foul on Karen Hegarty gave Westmeath their second score of the match from a Claude Ann Foley thirteen metre free kick. Jordan made an outstanding save in the Waterford goal on sixteen minutes to deny Laura Walsh a certain goal.
Waterford's defence had dealt very well with the Westmeath attack in the opening quarter of the match with Laurissa Hogan and Grainne Kenneally doing particularly well. Waterford extended their lead on eighteen minutes with points from Trish Fitzgerald and Louise Ryan.
Westmeath hit a purple patch on twenty minutes when the Johanna Maher rounded her marker and shot low into the corner of the Waterford net for Westmeath's opening goal. Westmeath added two more points from Laura Walsh and Maher to narrow the gap to two points.
A point from Grainne Enright on twenty six minutes extended Waterford's lead to three points. Westmeath leveled the match with the last kick of the half, when Ruth Kearney was put through in a good passing movement and hit the top of the net with an unstoppable shot from thirteen metres to leave the scores Waterford 2-4 Westmeath 2-4 at the half time break.
Westmeath took the lead for the only time in the match on the thirty fourth minute with another Maher point. Waterford responded quickly with points from Michelle McGrath and a Sinead Ryan free to regain the lead.
Westmeath were reduced to fourteen players on forty five minutes when Johanna Maher was sin binned for a dangerously late tackle on Mary Foley. Waterford made good use of the extra player and points from Michelle Ryan , Sinead Ryan (2), Michelle McGrath extended Waterford's lead. A second Sinead Ryan goal on fifty five minutes made the game safe for Waterford and the match finished on a final score line of Waterford 3-10 Westmeath 2-7.

Mayoral Reception
Waterford's U14 All Ireland winning team and mentors were the guests of honour at a Mayoral Reception, hosted by Mayor of Dungarvan, Councilor Theresa Wright, in the Civic Offices last Friday night.
The Mayor paid tribute to the girls, their mentors and families for the honour and glory that they achieved for themselves, their clubs, their families and their County. This tribute was echoed by the large contingent of Councilors present on the night.
In response team captain Ainne Power, Manager Trish Fitzgerald and County Board Chairman, Peter Jordan thanked the Mayor for her generosity in hosting the reception and paid tribute to all those involved in bringing the All Ireland title to Waterford.
All of the girls and the team manager were presented with a parchment by the Mayor of Dungarvan as a memento of the occasion.
TG4 Intermediate Championship
Waterford 5-14 Longford 1-13
Waterford got their TG4 Intermediate Championship campaign back on track in St Molleran's on Sunday with a comprehensive win over Longford. Longford had no answer on the day to Waterford's speedy forwards, all of whom made their mark.
Waterford started very positively and were three points up before Longford got their opening score on five minutes. Waterford got their opening goal on seven minutes when Michelle Ryan finished from close range after a great run by Linda Wall.
Longford came more into the game with their former All Star forward Fiona Getting's getting two points for the visitors to narrow the gap to five points. Waterford's second goal came on eighteen minutes when Louise Ryan won a Longford kick out and Aileen Wall finished superbly into the corner of the net.
Longford finished the half strongly, but were guilty of some wayward shooting in front of goal as the Waterford defenders worked hard to keep their goal line intact. Waterford ended the half with an excellent goal from Sinead Ryan who finished a sweeping move that started in the backline.
Waterford started the second half with four points in the opening five minutes. On thirty six minutes Longford got their only goal of the game when Getting's finished to the back of the net from close range.
Waterford stamped their authority on the match midway through the half with goals from Elaine Power and Mairead Wall, giving Waterford a fifteen point cushion at the end of the third quarter. A flurry of points by the visitors in the in the final ten minutes took some of the gloss of what was a good Waterford performance.
Waterford's next match is against table toppers Westmeath, who had an excellent 3-8 to 2-9 win over Fermanagh in Eniskillen on Saturday. Having previously beaten Cavan in the opening round of the championship, this Westmeath team must be considered as serious contenders to make the All Ireland Intermediate Final. However this group is so close that a victory over Westmeath would see Waterford jump to the top of the table.
Next week's match will be back in St Mollerans, Carrick-on-Suir, on Sunday 31st July, with a 2.30 pm throw-in.
Please go and support the team as this a crucial match in Waterford's campaign to get to Croke Park in September.

All Ireland U14B Final Replay
Waterford 2-9 Mayo 2-5
There were scenes of jubilation in Birr, County Offaly, last Sunday as Waterford ran out deserving winners in the All Ireland U14B Shield Final Replay against a determined Mayo side. Joint captains and cousins, Ainne Power and Geraldine Power, received the cup on behalf of their team and to rousing cheers thanked their team mates, their manager Trish Fitzgerald and mentors Crohan McGregor, Anne Dunford and Maurice Cahillane and a
Waterford made three changes from last weeks game, with Catriona O'Brien, Katie Hayes and Rebecca Casey coming in for Molly Curran, Carrie Ni Fhoughlu and the injured Ainne Power (Capt). The Waterford girls started well and went two points ahead after 8 minutes with two points from Liz Devine. Mayo opened their account on 12 minutes with a point from their dangerous full forward Sharon Hughes. Hughes got Mayo's opening goal a minute later, to finish off an excellent Mayo attack.
Waterford responded well and points from Lauren Guiry, Dawn Power and Jessica Lavin put Waterford back into the lead by 0-5 to 1-1. Indeed Waterford were very unlucky when Lauren McGregor's left foot shot crashed into the side netting. A minute later Waterford found the back of the net when the outstanding Liz Devine finished off a flowing move that started in the Waterford back line.
Waterford's defence contained the dangerous Mayo forward line extremely well throughout the match with Caoimhe McGrath giving a man of the match display at centre back and the wing backs of Fiona Weiss and the tenacious Megan Dunford playing brilliant football.
A Mayo goal on 24 minutes kept the Waterford supporters on their toes as Waterford lead by a single point at the break (Waterford 1-6 Mayo 2-2)
A Waterford substitution at half time saw Molly Curran replace Fiona Weiss. Waterford restarted the match in determined fashion and points from Jessica Glavin and Lauren McGregor (free) stretched the Waterford lead to three points.
Both sides exchanged points during the next ten minutes, until the defining score which came on 54 minutes. Lauren Guirey won a Mayo kick-out and beat her marker. Jessica Glavin, running off her shoulder took the pass, beat two defenders and scored what turned out to be the winning goal.
Mayo put the Waterford goal under severe pressure during the final ten minutes of the match. An outstanding save by Roisin Cahillane in injury time and tough, uncompromising defending by Nuala Landers, Caoimhe Mcgrath, Catherine Hahessy, Megan Dunford and Molly Curran kept their goal secure and gave Waterford the cup.
Waterford's overall performance on Sunday was definitely much better than in the drawn game and the return of Katie Hayes in midfield was a big bonus. There were lots of contenders for man-of the match including Liz Devine and Jessica Glavin. However Caoimhe McGrath's outstanding display gave the Abbeyside girl the accolade on the day.
Thanks to all the supporters, friends and parents that traveled on Sunday to support the girls. Congratulations and well done to the mentors and girls who have put in so much work over the year.

All Ireland U14 Final
Waterford 2-8 Mayo 2-8
Waterford traveled to Birr, County Offaly on Sunday to play Mayo in the All Ireland U14B Shield Final. The match was preceded by a minutes silence as a mark of respect to Breda McGregor, grandmother of Lauren McGregor, whose funeral was on Sunday morning.
Waterford playing against a stiff breeze in the first half, went behind in the second minute of the match to a point from Mayo's captain, Shauna Howley. Waterford replied with a point from Jessica Glavin and neither side could get on the score board until Glavin scored her second point on 13 minutes.
Waterford were dealing admirably with the strong wind and a determined Mayo side and even though Mayo went ahead with points on 14 and 16 minutes, Waterford were playing excellent controlled football.
Waterford went ahead 1-2 to 0-3 after 22 minutes . when Glavin shot to the top of the net to finish an excellent passage of play that started in the Waterford backline. Mayo pegged a point back from the kick out and went ahead with a goal of their own on 29 minutes.
The half finished with Waterford trailing on a score line of Waterford 1-3 Mayo 1-5.
The second half started with a penalty to Waterford after 30 seconds, however Mayo's keeper was up to the task, making a good save to thwart the Waterford girls. Waterford went on to dominate the third quarter of the game, outscoring Mayo by 1-5 to 0-1, with Dawn Power the scorer of Waterford's second goal, to lead by 2-8 to 1-6 on 45 minutes.
Referee , Pat Kehoe (Carlow) , who had an excellent game, gave what appeared to be a soft penalty to Mayo on 47 minutes, which was duly converted to narrow the gap to two points and gave Mayo the inspiration to take the game to Waterford.
In a frantic last 10 minutes Mayo added two further points to level the match. Waterford did have chances to win the match and will probably feel that they let this one slip. However they will get another chance next weekend to put the record straight.
This was a great performance by the Waterford girls, it was very hard to pick out individuals. However Jessica Glavin, Liz Devine, Geraldine Power and Caoimhe McGrath had tremendous games and led by example on the pitch.
Details of next weekend's replay will be confirmed on Tuesday, and is likely to be Sunday in Birr again. We would appeal to all the family, friends and supporters to make the journey to support the girls.

All Ireland U14 Blitz
Waterford's U14's were away bright and early last Saturday morning as they headed to Kinnegad, County Westmeath, to take part in the All Ireland U14 Blitz. After a long days football they were very unlucky to miss out on a semi-final spot in Division 2 after they finished runners-up to Leitrim.
After last years achievements, when they won the Division 3 title, the team management were hoping that all of the hard work and hours on the training pitches would pay off with a decent performance in Division 2 this year. This tournament would also let the management know how strong their panel was, as they would need every player to contribute over a long day.
Waterford opened their day with a match against Wicklow and put in a convincing performance to win on a score line of Waterford 4-3 Wicklow 0-2. Scorers were Jessica Glavin (2-0), Lauren McGregor (2-1), Dawn Power (0-2) and Lauren Guiey (0-1).
Their second match was against Leitrim and this was a match they could have won and probably should have won. However Leitrim won by a 2 point margin on a score line of Leitrim 1-3 Waterford 0-4, with points from Dawn Power, Lauren McGregor, Jessica Glavin and Liz Devine.
Waterford's third match was against Cavan, and they had an excellent win over the Ulster U14B Finalists, on a score line of 1-2 to 0-2 with a goal from Lauren Guirey and points from Roisin Cahillane and Molly Curran.
The final match was against Kerry's second team and they finished in style with a 3-0 to 0-1 over the Kingdom girls with goals from Lucy O'Shea(2) and Jessica Glavin.
Unfortunately they did not make the final as runners-up in the group. There were great performances all round from the girls and the management were particularly happy with a very solid defence that only conceded 1-8 in four matches. The progress of the team over the last two years is a credit to the manager Trish Fitzgerald and her management team.
Panel: R Cahillane, M Boyce, N Landers, C O'Brien, M Dunford, C McGrath, M Curran, K Hayes, C Hahessey, J Glavin, L Devine, L Guirey, A Power, L McGregor, D Power, H Murphy-Nix, E Murray, F Weiss, N Power, R Casey, M Meehan, G Power, L O'Shea, R Finnegan, A Murray, K Murray, C Foley, D Murphy, N Moore, T Murray, S Supple.

Congratulations to Michelle Ryan (Ballymacabry) on winning a position on the Bord Gais Energy Division 2 Team of the League, where she is listed at Centre Forward. U16C County Final
Congratulations to Stradbally who beat Roanmore in the first final of the year in Lemybrien . This was a very sporting and entertaining match, with Stradbally getting winning score in the dying minutes of the match. Final score was Stradbally 7-2 Roanmore 4-10.
Munster U14B Final
Waterford 2-9 Tipperary 3-15
Waterford travelled to Cahir, Tipperary, for the Munster U14B Final on Sunday last and despite a good performance, they were unable to the get the better of their hosts, who produced a very accomplished performance on the day to take the Munster U14B Title.
Tipperary, playing with the aid of a gale force wind in the first half , were off the mark within a minute of the throw-in with a well taken point. Despite their best efforts, Waterford found it difficult to cope with the conditions and the very accurate Tipperary forwards and were 7 points behind before Waterford's first attempt on the Tipperary goal on 10 minutes.
To their credit Waterford never gave up and in particular the full back line of Megan Dunford, Nuala Landers, Molly Curran and goal keeper, Roisin Cahillane were outstanding in defence throughout the game. Lauren Guirey, Lauren McGregor and in particular Jessica Glavin, worked tirelessly to get the ball into the forwards in the first half. Indeed Waterford were pressing strongly as the half time whistle approached, but were finding it difficult to get scores on the board.
Waterford went into the half time break 2-12 to 0-2 in arrears, and should probably have had a penalty in the closing minutes of the half when Dawn Power was fouled and had to retire injured. However the match officials thought differently and deemed that the ball had been out of play before the foul occurred.
Waterford were on the score board early in the second half with two points and Lauren McGregor got Waterford's first goal on forty minutes after the Tipperary goal keeper failed to hold a shot, to narrow the gap. Waterford continued to work hard looking for scores but found the tenacious Tipperary defence difficult to break down.
A breakaway goal by Tipperary on fifty minutes put the game beyond Waterford's reach. Waterford kept going to the end, scoring another 1-2 without reply. However it was not to be their day and a jubilant Tipperary teamed claimed the cup from Munster Official, Michael Ryan. Tipperary's Aisling Moloney, from Cahir, received the Player of the Match award.
Waterford now head to Kiltoom next weekend for the All Ireland U14 Blitz. Following on their win last year in Division 3 and their excellent performance in the Munster Championship this year, they can look forward with anticipation to next weekend.

Munster Minor B Championship
Waterford 6-14 Limerick 4-1
Waterford's Minors took the honours in Fraher Field last Saturday when they beat Limerick on a score line of 6-14 to 4-1, to win the Munster Minor B Championship. The match was played in glorious sunshine, and in perfect conditions, with both teams playing exciting open football.
Limerick opened the scoring with a goal in the third minute as Waterford struggled to contain the pacey Limerick forwards. Limerick continued to dominate the opening quarter of the match and lead by 3-01 to 0-2 after 15 minutes with Shauna Fercombe and Clodagh Walsh getting the Waterford scores.
Waterford came back into the game in the final 10 minutes of the half with points from Shauna Ferncombe, Clodagh Walsh, Aileen Wall and Danielle Hallihan. A fourth Limerick goal was cancelled out by a Clodagh Walsh penalty deep into injury time and Waterford trailed at the break by 1-6 to 4-1.
Waterford started the second half in determined fashion and scored 2-1 in the opening five minutes of the second half (Hallahan 1-0, Walsh 1-0 and Katie Whyte 0-1). Waterford's defense was much improved and kept Limerick scoreless for the second half. Waterford's forwards kept the score board ticking over and were convincing 6-14 to 4-1 at the final whistle.
Michael Ryan made the presentations on behalf of Munster Council and thanked the referee, Waterford GAA for the use of Fraher field and both teams for an excellent match. Aileen Wall was presented with Player of the Final accolade for her outstanding display over the two legs of the final.
Roisin Tobin, the Waterford captain, was presented with the Munster Minor B Cup by Michael Ryan. Rosin thanked the Waterford mentors, her team mates, the referee and the Limerick team for their part in making the final such a memorable occasion.

Munster U16 B Championship
Limerick 4-9 Waterford 1-12
Waterford's U16's traveled to Bruff, Co Limerick for their opening match in the U16B Championship and were unlucky to loose to a very good Limerick side. Waterford never recovered from conceding two goals late in the first half and though they dominated play in the second half they were unable to break down a resolute Limerick defence.
Waterford's next match is against Tipperary, next Saturday in Cahir in a match that they must win if they are to reach the Munster U16B Final.
Golden Goal
The winning time in Waterford's Fund raising Golden Goal competition was 50 minutes and 01 seconds. If the winning ticket is not presented within the next 7 days the nearest time will be deemed the winner.
Munster Minor Championship
Limerick 1-4 Waterford 6-14
Waterford made the long journey to Askeaton, Limerick for the first leg of the Munster Minor B Championship final on Saturday evening last and came away with a resounding win over their hosts. This was a win founded on a solid defenece, and tremendous work rate throughout the team.
Limerick, playing with the wind in the first half, pointed after 3 minutes through corner forward Triona Bannon. Waterford's opening score came through the boot of Clodagh Walsh to level the scores two minutes later. Limericks dominance in the opening quarter resulted in their opening goal after their full forward Aisling Enright got free and netted from close range. Indeed except for some excellent defending by Waterford during this period, Limerick could have been further ahead.
Midway through the first half some positional changes had the desired affect with Clodagh Walsh scoring from the penalty spot after sustained Waterford pressure around the Limerick goalmouth. Waterford dominated the final quarter of the first half with midfielders Clodagh Behan and Fiona Morrissey in control of midfield and Hannah Lander's distribution at centre forward outstanding. Waterford's scores in the first half were Shauna Ferncombe (2-2), Clodagh Walsh (1-2, 1p-1f) Aileen Wall (0-1), and giving Waterford a 3-5 to 1-2 lead at half time.
Limerick opened the second half in determined fashion and registered the opening score of the half on 34 minutes. Indeed they could have had a goal on 40 minutes except for an outstanding reaction save by Waterford's keeper Hayley McCarthy, who also saved a penalty in the dying minutes of the game.
Again it was the Waterford defending that held firm during this opening period of the second half and when the sting was taken out of the Limerick attack, Waterford kept the scoreboard ticking over. Waterford outscored Limerick by 3-9 to 0-2 in the second half and will bring a commanding 25 point lead into the home leg of this Munster B Final in two weeks time.

Cavan get revenge in Breffni Park
Cavan 3-11
Waterford 2-7
Bord Gais Div 2 - Ladies Football
Cavan sought revenge for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Déise last August when the Waterford ladies beat them in the All Ireland Semi-final. Cavan tried to set out their stall from the start but Abbeyside's Fiona Morrissey got the first score of the game with a magnificent goal. This is Morrisseys first year in the team and she is paying dividends for the faith shown in her by the Waterford management. Morrissey also plays with the minors having captained last years U16 team. Cavan battled hard and tapped on points eating away at Waterford's lead. Cavan forged ahead with 2 goals by Aisling Doonan, pushing her team in to a seven-point lead. It was excellent play by Michelle McGrath rocketing the ball in to the roof of the net and points by Sinéad & Michelle Ryan brought Waterford back in to the game. Waterford went in to half time trailing at the break by 2 points with the scores at 2-6 to 2-4.
In the second half, scrappy play from Waterford allowed Cavan to surge onwards. Bronagh Sheridan was introduced in the second half for Cavan and immediately kicked a point. Waterford brought the game to within 3 points again but Doonan kicked another point from a free and on the last attack of the game by Cavan the waiting Daena Clerkin drilled it home past Ciara Kearney who had an outstanding game.
Waterford's next game is at home to Kerry on the 27th of March.
Waterford Triumph Against Tipperary
Waterford 2-14
Tipperary 2-10
Bord Gais Div 2 - Ladies Football
Tipperary came flying out of the traps in this division 2, round 4 Bord Gais league game held in St. Mollerans in Carrig-on-Suir. After 18 minutes Tipperary were 2-3 to Waterford's 4points where by the Déise had also squandered 4 scoring chances. Aimee Jordan had kept the Déise in the game 2 minutes earlier with a fine save from Tipperary's full forward Mairéad Morrissey, the Brian Boru's woman scoring both Tipperary's goals. It was on the 22nd minute when a goal by Aileen Wall set this game alight sparking some fine play by the Déise women. On the stroke of half time Tipperary's full back was yellow carded for a dangerous tackle on Waterford's Louise Ryan. This did not stop Tipperary as their corner forward Edel Hanley tapped over another two points after this to leave the half time score with Waterford trailing 1-6 to 2-5.
Waterford looked like a different team in the second half dominating play from the offset. An incredible save by Tipperary's Nora Noonan 2 minutes in after the restart was just the beginning of Waterford's onslaught against the Premier County. Michelle McGrath, and the Ryan sisters Michelle and Sinéad from Ballymacarbry collectively scored six points. In the 16th minute, Waterford were awarded a penalty when McGrath was taken off her feet as she was going around a Tipperary defender. Michelle Ryan stood up to the mark and confidently sent the ball to the left inside of the net sending the Déise now in to a seven point lead. Tipperary never stopped attacking but members of the Waterford defence such as Karen McGrath, Anne Dunphy, and Gráinne Enright stood up to the every effort from the ladies from Tipperary limiting them to 5 points in total in the second half. Noonan was to pull off another two saves from Maria Delahunty and Aileen Wall, and in the end it was Waterford who stole it in the end.
Waterford are away to Cavan next weekend. There is a chequered history between these two sides as Waterford were defeated by Cavan in the league final last year and Waterford's payback was to defeat them in the All-Ireland semi final. Cavan will be eager to exact revenge for this. Cavan are favourites for this encounter as today they defeated current senior All-Ireland Champions Dublin by 2-7 to 1-8 at home. Today's encounter was refereed by Mags Doherty of Wexford.

The Ballyduff player has had an outstanding year for the Waterford Ladies Footballers, including winning the Player of the Match Award in the National League Semi Final replay where she kicked the winning scores.
Her display in the All Ireland Final against Donegal was of the highest quality and she did and exceptional job on marking Yvonne McMonagle when she was moved back to mark the Donegal sharpshooter.
An all round sportswoman, Grainne also excels at camogie with Waterford and her club Lismore, who won the Munster Intermediate Championship last weekend.

Munster Senior Club Final
Ballymacabry 2-11 Inch Rovers 5-13
Cork Champions Inch Rovers prove too strong for Ballymacabry in the replay of the Munster Senior Club Final in Bushy Park on Saturday. Goals win matches and Inch Rovers scored two in the opening ten minutes of this match and Ballymacabry were on the back foot for the rest of this match.
Ballymacabry closed the gap briefly towards the end of the first half with a Rebecca Hallahan Doocey goal, however Inch Rovers responded with a goal of their own to lead going into the half time break on a score line of Inch Rovers 3-5 Ballymacabry 1-5.
Two excellent points early in the second half from the Inch full forward, Mary O'Connor and a third from Jessica O'Shea put the outcome of this match beyond doubt. Ballymacabry's Marian Ryan got a second goal midway through the half for the Nire club, but Inch responded with two goals of their own through Claire Keohane and Jessica O'Shea to give Inch their third Munster Senior title.
Player of the match went to Inch Rover's Jessica O'Shea, with Mary O'Connor and Annie Walsh also putting in very strong performances for the Killeagh club. Best for Ballymacabry on the day were Aileen Wall, Marian Ryan and Laurissa Hogan.
While it is very disappointing for the Ballymacabry girls, the fact that they pushed Inch so close over the two matches is a credit to themselves and their mentors. Hopefully they can take some inspiration from their efforts and push on to win the title next year.
Fashion Show
The Annual Dungarvan Shopping Centre Fashion Show was held on Tuesday the 19th October, 2010 in the Shopping Centre and was a tremendous success with over 400 in attendance. Trojan work was done by Gerry and the staff of the shopping centre and by Grainne Flynn, Lisa Cronin , Johnny Landers and their committee and the shops to make the show such a wonderful spectacle.
Well done to Mary Foley and all the girls that modeled on the night and to her brother Richie and the hurlers that played a great supporting role on the night. Finally a big thanks to Nuala Murphy and all the helpers on the night.
All Star Nominations
Congratulations to Laurissa Hogan and Michelle Ryan , both of whom received All Star nominations during the week. Laurissa has been outstanding throughout the year and the cornerstone of the Waterford defense. Michelle had another spectacular year, with the Ballymacabry player scoring 8 points from frees in the All Ireland Final. Both players with their families and friends will attend the banquet in the Citywest Hotel on Saturday 13 November.
Golden Boot
The Ryan family were in Croke Park again recently when Sinéad was awarded the Ladies Football Golden Boot Award 2010 for her superb form in this year's TG4 Intermediate Championship, scoring 11-24 (57 pts). Waterford are well represented at the top of the table ,with six players, Sinead Ryan, Michelle Ryan, Elaine Power, Grainne Kenneally, Maria Delahunty and Michelle McGrath in the top twenty scorers in the Intermediate Championship.
Munster Senior B Final
Ballymacabry had a thrilling win over the Kerry Senior Champions, Southern Gaels, in the Munster Senior B Final last Saturday in Ballyhooly, Cork. These sides were inseparable after sixty minutes, with Southern Gaels scoring three unanswered points in the last five minutes of normal time to send the game into extra time on a score line of 1-13 each.
In extra time Mary Cronin got a crucial goal for Southern Gaels to take a commanding two point lead. Ballymacabry responded in typical style and their never say die attitude kept them within touching distance of their opponents. An equalizing point with the last kick of the game saw the game finish level again (Ballymacabry 1-19 Southern Gaels 2-16).
A meeting of the Munster Executive in the middle of the field decided that two further periods of extra time ( five minutes each) must be played and after a short interval both teams resumed playing. A Mairead Wall goal on the 84th minute , after Michelle McGrath had split open the Southern Gaels defence with a tremendous run that started inside her own half, was the decisive score. Southern Gaels did rattle the Ballymacabry cross-bar in the dying minutes of the game, but were unable to close the gap.
After 90 minutes of top class football Ballymacabry took the Munster Senior B championship on a score line of 2-21 to 2-17. Ballymacabry are out against the Cork champions, Inch, next Saturday in the Munster Senior A Final.

Munster club Semi-Finals
In the Senior Semi-Final, Ballymacabry had a good win over Brian Boru's of Tipperary. Two goals from Sinead Ryan in the final five minutes of the game was enough to see them through to the Senior B Final against the Kerry Champions next Saturday in Castletownroche.
Clashmore lost to Moyle Rovers of Tipperary in the Junior Semi Final. Moyle Rovers were sharper , benefiting from their Quarter Final win over Listowell, which went to a replay. Aisling O'Donnell, Cliona O'Keefe and Evely O'Brien were the best for Clashmore on the day.
All Ireland Intermediate Final
Waterford 0-16 Donegal 2-12
Fortune didn't favour the brave on Sunday when Waterford lost by two points to Donegal in a thrilling All Ireland Intermediate Final, played in ideal conditions in Croke Park. A man-of-the-match display from Donegal's Yvonne McMonagle, who score 2-7 for her team , was the difference between the teams at the final whistle.
Waterford had a great start with a Sinead Ryan point after two minutes, followed by a converted free from Michelle Ryan a minute later. Waterford kept their noses in front during a hectic opening quarter with points from M Ryan (free) and Michelle McGrath. The sin binning of Grainne Enright on eight minutes, for what was deemed a high tackle was very harsh, but Waterford coped well with this setback.
Waterford's keeper, Aimee Jordan, managed to get a foot to goal bound shot on fourteen minutes to keep Waterford in the game. However she could do very little for McMonagles and Donegal's first goal on twenty three minutes, when a rebound of the upright fell to a Donegal player. The ball was passed into McMonagle on the edge of the small square and she dispatched it into the top corner of the net.
Waterford went into the half time break two points in arrears, on a score line of Donegal 1-5 Waterford 0-6
Waterford had a disastrous opening to the second half, when on the thirty second minute, the ball was played through to the unmarked McMonagle and she fired an unstoppable shot into the top of the net.
To their credit the Waterford players responded magnificently and could have had a goal of their own when Elaine Power's shot was blocked as she went for goal. Waterford continued to play the better football and five unanswered points (M Ryan 3f, E Power, L Wall) over the next fifteen minutes saw Waterford level the match on the forty fourth minute.
Waterford brought on some fresh legs with Niamh Briggs replacing Maria Delahunty on 39 minutes and Anne Dunphy replacing Mairead Wall on 44 minutes. Three points from Donegal in a four minute spell saw Donegal creep ahead and they held this advantage to the final whistle despite the best efforts of a valiant Waterford team.
Waterford will definitely feel that this was one that got away. They played the better football for most of the hour and should have pushed ahead when they drew level midway through the second half. Credit to Donegal and in particular Yvonne McMonagle who had an immense game. Waterford had their heroes as well, Aimee Jordan in goal, the Dunphy (twins), Laurissa Hogan and Grainne Kenneally in the backs. The midfield of Elaine Power and Michelle McGrath worked tirelessely and up front the Ryan and Wall sisters.
Finally to the Waterford Captain, Mary Foley, who led her team magnificently all year and team manager Jason Lynch and his back room staff for a great day.

All Ireland Junior Camogie Final
Well done to the Waterford Camogie team that drew with Antrim in Sundays All Ireland Junior Camogie Final and to Grainne Kenneally, who showed off her fine football skills in scoring Waterford's goal. The girls will get another chance in the replay on October 2nd and I am sure they will have learnt enough in the drawn game to get the win they deserve.
All Ireland Intermediate Championship Final
Waterford will play Donegal in the All Ireland Intermediate Final in Croke Park on Sunday, September 26th . The Donegal girls had a convincing 3-14 to 1-6 win over Longford in the second semi-final played last Saturday. Donegal corner forward , Geraldine McLaughlin, gave a man of the match display scoring 1-9 for her side.
In a low scoring first half Donegal led by a single point (1-3 to 1-2) at the half time break. Longford got their noses in front early in the second half to lead by 1-6 to 1-4. However some excellent free taking by the Donegal girls broke down the Longford resolve and in the last quarter of the match it was all one way traffic. The Donegal full forward line was very impressive scoring 2-13 between them.
Waterford continue with their All Ireland preparations with team manager Jason Lynch, quietly confident that Waterford can deliver on the day. The Waterford girls know that they will have to raise their performance still further if they are to collect the silverware come All Ireland Final Day.

County Intermediate and Junior County Finals
The county Intermediate and Junior Finals took place on Saturday in Kilmacthomas. The Junior Final between Clashmore and Tramore was a thriller, with Clashmore edging out Tramore by two points after extra time on a final score of Clashmore 5-18 Tramore 6-13.
Clashmore, appearing in their fifth consecutive final, got to the winning post by virtue of two Aisling O'Donnell points in the second period of extra time. Clashmore's county stars Edel Wilson and Trish Fitzgerald together and ex county player Cliona O'Keefe were the mainstays of the Clashmore victory.
Following on from her star performance in the All Ireland Semi-Final, Tramore's Elaine Power produced another fine display for her club. Tramore were always a threat in attack, particularly when Niamh Walsh and Viki Falconer were in possession. This is a very young team with lots of potential and an excellent set-up.
Dungarvan beat St Anne's on a score line of 5-6 to 2-4 in the Intermediate Final to add to their 2009 Junior title. St Anne's were missing some key players who will be in Croke Park next Sunday with the Waterford camogie team.
U12 Championship Finals
The U12 Championship Finals will take place next Saturday in Kilmacthomas. Approximate starting times will be D Final 11.30 am C Final 12.45 pm B Final 2.00 pm and A Final 3.15 pm.
All Ireland Junior Camogie Final
We wish the Waterford camogie team the very best next Sunday when they travel to Croke Park to play Antrim in the All Ireland Final. Having missed out at this stage last year, the girls will be more determined than ever to succeed.
There is a good representation of ladies footballers on the team. Grainne Kenneally is having her best year ever in both codes and will be traveling to Croke Park on the 26th September for the football final. Also involved will be Shona Curran and Didi Fahey from the St Pats club, Charlette Raher and Jenny Simpson from St Annes and Mary O'Donnel and Fiona Kiely from Old Parish.
All Ireland Intermediate Championship Semi Final
Waterford 1-14 Cavan 0-10
Waterford booked their place in the All Ireland Final in Croke Park on the fourth Sunday of September, when they beat Cavan by 7 points in Dr Cullen Park, Carlow on Saturday last. Waterford's Elaine Power was named player of the match after an outstanding performance in midfield by the Tramore player.
Cavan, missing the influential Grainne Smith who caused Waterford so much trouble in the League Final, appeared very unsettled in the early stages of the match and were finding in very difficult to get ball from midfield into their dangerous full forward line. Much of the credit for this goes to the midfield pairing of Elaine Power and Michelle McGrath and Waterfords half forward line, particularly Grainne Kenneally who had another outstanding game.
Cavan having won the toss elected to play with a strong breeze blowing nearly straight down the pitch. However it was Waterford that made the better start and Michelle McGrath scored Waterford's opening point in the first minute after excellent play by Maria Delahunty and Aileen Wall. Waterford had a lucky break on five minutes when Aisling Traynor's shot came back off the post as it appeared to be heading to the corner of the net. Waterford responded with a sweeping move that ended with Sinead Ryan scoring Waterford's second point.
A long range Bronagh Sheridan shot rattled the Waterford cross bar on seven minutes and from the resulting clearance Waterford moved the ball up field at speed for Ryan's second score and Waterford third point of the match. Cavan got on the scoreboard on the ninth minute with an Aisling Doonan free kick. A Bronagh Sheridan point a minute later narrowed the gap to a single point.
Waterford got a crucial goal on thirteen minutes when the Waterford attack opened up the Cavan defence and Elaine Power found the top corner of the net with an unstoppable shot from 20 metres. Aisling Doonan and Michelle Ryan (free) exchanged points on fifteen minutes to leave Waterford with a four point lead.
Grainne Kenneally scored an excellent point on 20 minutes to put Waterford five points to the good. Cavan put the Waterford defence under severe pressure for the final ten minutes of the half particularly the pacey Claragh Reilly (0-2, 1f) and Aisling Doonan (0-1f). Waterford went into the half time break leading on a score line of 1-5 to 0-6.
A Michelle Ryan point on thirty two minutes restored Waterford's three point lead. Cavan continued to pressurize the Waterford defence and two converted frees (Sheridan and Doonan) brought Cavan to within a point of Waterford. Grainne Kenneally increased Waterford's lead with a well taken point on thirty eight minutes and four minutes later Aisling Doonan reduced the gap to a single point with her fifth point of the match.
The turning point in the game came in the forty third minute when Claragh Reilly turned her marker and shot from close range. Waterford's keeper, Aimee Jordan, made a good save, but the rebound fell to Bronagh Sheridan who put the ball over the bar to level the match when it would have been easier to stick the ball into the open goal.
Cavan heads dropped and Waterford upped their game to score seven unanswered points ( Sinead Ryan, Michelle Ryan (0-3, 1f), Elaine Power, Michelle McGrath and Aileen Wall ) in the next ten minutes. Cavan dominated the last ten minutes of play, but were unable to get the goals they badly needed. Waterford finished deserving winners and will play in the All Ireland Final in Croke Park against the winners of next weeks semi final between Longford and Donegal.
This was Waterford's best performance in the Championship and ranks with the win over Fermanagh in the National League Semi Final. The work rate all over the field was key to this win, particularly when Waterford lost possession. All of the backs stuck to their jobs, restricting Cavan to five points from play, a job well done. If one back stood out it would have to be Laurissa Hogan who was exceptional.

All Ireland U16B Shield Final
Waterford 3-11 Fermanagh 5-8
Waterford lost their All Ireland U16B Shield title in Bannagher, Co offally on Sunday last, when Fermanagh overturned a 10 point deficit early in the second half to win their first all Ireland title by 4 points.
Both sides started the match very tentatively and it wasn't until the ninth minute that the opening score was registered when Fermanagh scored from a 20m free. Waterford responded immediately with a Katie Whyte goal and this was followed by two pointed frees from Clodagh Walsh. Waterford went on to dominate the first half and a Clodagh Walsh penalty on the stroke of half time saw Waterford finish the half 2-8 to 2-1 in front.
A goal from Fiona Morrisey in the opening minutes saw Waterford 10 points to the good and the match looked as good as over. Waterford and Fermanagh scored two points apiece over the next ten minutes and the intensity had gone out of the game.
The key moment came on sixteen minutes when Fermanagh scored 1-1 to narrow the gap to six points. Waterford increased the gap to seven points on twenty minutes, but failed to score for the remainder of the match.
A Fermanagh goal and a point on twenty four minutes narrowed the gap to 3 points as Fermanagh took complete control of the game. Two further points on the twenty ninth and thirtieth minutes brought Fermanagh to within a point of Waterford as the game entered injury time. An injury time goal and an insurance point was enough for Fermanagh to claim a well deserved win after an incredible fight back.
The Waterford girls were not without their heroes on the day. Karen McGrath and Clodagh Ryan were outstanding in the backs, Fiona Morrissey worked herself to a standstill and Aoife Hannon and Katie Whyte worked tirelessly in the forwards. On the day Fermanagh were able to use their bench to greater effect and the fresh legs made the difference in the last ten minutes.

All Ireland Intermediate Championship Semi-Final
Waterford play Cavan next Saturday in the Semi-Final of the All Ireland Intermediate Championship as part of a double header with the Senior Semi-Final between Laois and Dublin in Dr Cullen Park, Carlow with a throw-in of 4.15 pm. TG4 will be showing both games live.
Waterford have been on the wrong side of two results with Cavan , this year and they wont want to be reminded of the National League Final, when Cavan ran out easy 10 point winners. However a closer look at that match reveals that the sides are a lot more evenly matched than the score line would suggest.
The Waterford players have a real conviction that they can beat Cavan but they will need to produce their best performance of the year if they are to progress to the All Ireland Final at the end of September. They also need to prevent their opponents from scoring goals, an affliction that has been their downfall in the past.
Waterford have lots of talent throughout the team, and emerging talent, with the younger players like Anne Dunphy, Maria Delahunty, Aileen Wall and Roisin Tobin pushing hard for places. A top drawer performance by Waterford and anything less than Cavan's best, could see an upset come Saturday evening.

All Ireland Intermediate Championship
Longford 1-16 Waterford 3-10
Waterford traveled to Emmet Park, Killoe on Sunday hoping to maintain their unbeaten record in their final round robin match of the Intermediate Championship. At the final whistle they were very lucky to come away with a share of the points after a below par performance. Waterford will have to wait until next weekend to find out who their semi-final opponents will be, but most likely it will be either Donegal or Cavan.
Michelle Ryan opened the scoring for Waterford two minutes into the game after Sinead Ryan had been fouled and Ryan was on target to score a good point from play on six minutes. Waterford didn't score again until the twentieth minute when Grainne Kenneally and Michelle McGrath got on the scoreboard in the space of two minutes. Waterford's final score of the half was another Michelle Ryan free after Sinead Ryan had been cynically fouled as she headed towards goal in the twenty seventh minute.
The first half belonged to Longford with their players first to the ball on every occasion. The Longford tactics dragged the Waterford defenders all over the pitch leaving acres of space in front of the Waterford goal. Waterford's keeper, Ciara Kearney, made a good save as early as the 4th minute to deny Longford and opening goal. Two minutes later Longfords Ann Marie Bratton got a goal on the counter attack after a Waterford attack had broken down. By the end of the first quarter Waterford were behind on a score line of 1-5 to 0-2. Waterford rang the changes with the introduction of Maria Delahunty and Anne Dunphy after 20 minutes and this helped to stem the Longford tide. Waterford went into the half time break 1-8 to 0-5 behind.
Waterford's resurgence began as early as the first minute of the second half when Maria Delahunty won a ball in broken play and finished well into the corner of the net. A Ryan pointed free a minute later narrowed the gap to 2 points. On thirty six minutes Ryan scored Waterford's second goal, when a thirty metre free dropped inside the post and Waterford lead for the first time in the match.
A Sinead Ryan point stretched Waterford's lead , before Longford leveled the score with two points from play. Waterford's third goal came in the thirty second minute when Sinead Ryan picked up a rebound from a blocked shot an slotted the ball into the net. Two Sharon Tracey frees for Longford reduced Waterford's lead to a single point midway through the second half. Both sides scored from frees before Longford's Sharon Tracey leveled the scores on the thirty eight minute.
Waterford's Grainne Kenneally was sin binned on fifty one minutes and Longford took the lead from the resulting free. Longford continued to press forward in the final minutes of the match and in one of the few attacks that Waterford were able to mount, Sinead Ryan snatched a late equalizer.

All Ireland U16B Shield Final
Waterford 3-9 Roscommon 1-8
Waterford bounced back from their Munster Final defeat with a thrilling performance to beat Roscommon in the All Ireland U16B Shield Semi Finals in Portarlington on Saturday last. Missing a number of players due to holidays and injuries Waterford went into this match as slight underdogs, but were confident that they could deliver on the day
Roscommon were first on the scoreboard with a point after three minutes. An Aoife Hannon point on eight minutes and a goal of the highest quality from the same player a minute later put Waterford in the driving seat. A total of 2-2 from Hannon and two Fiona Morrissey points saw Waterford go into the half time break 2-5 to 0-6 ahead.
Roscommon started the second half in whirlwind fashion, scoring 1-2 in the opening six minutes to level the scores. The turning point of this match was on 40 minutes, when Waterford's captain and centre back, Karen McGrath, won a ball in the back line and initiated an attack which she finished herself with a sublime shot into the roof of the Roscommon goal.
Waterford's defense was outstanding for the remainder of the half, keeping Roscommon scoreless. The half back line of Ciara Hallahan, Karen McGrath and Susan Gleeson stopped the Roscommon running game forcing Roscommon to kick into their full forward line. The Waterford full back line of Caoimhe Hearn , Claire Whyte and Clodagh Ryan were absolutely sublime giving a display of tackling and blocking.
Waterford will now play Fermanagh in two weeks time in the All Ireland Final, when the will hope they can retain the title they won last year.

Munster U16B Final
Waterford 1-12 Tipperary 6-5
Waterford lost to near neighbours Tipperary last Friday night in Cappoquin in a highly entertaining Munster U16 Final. Waterford started well and playing all the football were 6 points in front after the first quarter of the game. Tipperary's first score of the game came on 16 minutes when a fast break saw the Waterford defence stretched and Roisin Cahillane was unlucky to see her excellent save fall to the feet of Tipperary's Aisling McCarthy who buried the ball into the back of the net.
Waterford continued to dominate with Karen McGrath and Aoife Landers particularly effective in the half back line. Waterford stretched their lead with two further points from the impressive Aoife Hannon and Hannah Landers. Another Tipperary breakaway goal after 25 minutes rocked the Deise girls and a third Tipp goal on the stroke of half time saw Waterford go into the break a point in arrears on score line of Waterford 0-8 Tipperary 3-0.
Changes at half time saw Vikki Falconer come on for Ciara Hallahan and a number of positional switches as the Waterford Management tried to plug the holes in the Waterford defence. A fourth Tipperary goal three minutes into the second half gave the Deise girls a mountain to climb and in fairness they never gave up. Two points from Clodagh Walsh narrowed the gap to two points before Tipperary finished off the match with a fifth goal on 45 minutes.
Waterford managed a goal of their own in the closing minutes of the game but they were never able to recover from the Tipperary goal spree. Munster Vice President, Michael Ryan presented the cup to Tipperarys captain Cliona Higgins, who also won the Player of the Final Award.
Waterford head into the All Ireland Shield Semi-Final in three weeks time, where they will defend their 2009 All Ireland Shield title against either Mayo or Roscommon. While they probably feel that this is a game they could have, and probably should have won they will have learnt some valuable lessons.

All Ireland Intermediate Championship
Waterford 5-20 Roscommon 2-5
Waterford had an easy win over a poor Roscommon side in the first round of the All Ireland Intermediate Championship, played in Colligan last Sunday. The highlights of the first half was an excellent double save by Waterford's net minder, Aimee Jordan, early in the first half and goals by Grainne Kenneally (8 min), Sinead Ryan (9 min) and Elaine Power (30 min). Roscommon's Niamh Warde scored three points in the first half and was Roscommon's most potent attacker. H.T. Waterford 3-11 Roscommon 0-5
Sinead Ryan completed her hat trick with two well taken goals (47 min and 55 min) after Grainne Kenneally had won a Roscommon kick out for the first goal and Linda Wall had put in a good run for the second. Two lapses in concentration by the Waterford defence gave Roscommon two goals ( 35 min and 45 min), but these seemed to wake the Waterford players up as they scored 2-6 in the last quarter of the game while keeping Roscommon scoreless. F.T Waterford 5-20 Roscommon 2-5.
Waterford have a long trip to Antrim next weekend for their second round tie.

Hopefully they can give us a repeat performance next Friday night.

Munster Intermediate Final
Waterford 2-12 Limerick 1-11
Waterford retained their Munster Intermediate title with a narrow 4 point win over Limerick in Castletownroche on Saturday. In a lack luster display, Waterford were unable to shake off a gritty Limerick team until the final ten minutes of the match, when two goals clinched the match for the Deise ladies.
Limerick attacked straight from the throw-in and Dympna O'Brien was unlucky with her first attempt as it sailed narrowly wide. Indeed Waterford could have found themselves behind on five minutes except for an outstanding block by Laurissa Hogan on Limericks number 6, Maebh Nash, as she headed towards goal.
Waterford settled into the game and two free from Michelle Ryan and a Sinead Ryan point gave Waterford three points on the scoreboard after 8 minutes. Four points in the remaining 22 minutes of the first half highlighted the poor ball retention and distribution by the Waterford forwards. Except for outstanding contributions by Grainne Kenneally and Linda Wall, who worked their socks off, Waterford would have been in serious trouble.
Limerick opened their scoring with an O'Brien point on 11 minutes and O'Brien scored two more points in the fourteenth and twenty third minutes. Waterford responded with scores from Aileen Wall, Sinead Ryan (free) and Trish Fitzgerald. Limerick brought on three substitutes in the first half and reorganized their line-up. A lapse in concentration by Waterford as the half time whistle approach saw Limerick kick three points, O'Brien (2) and Joanne O'Gorman, to narrow the gap to a single point. H.T. Waterford 0-7 Limerick 0-6
Limerick started the second half in determined fashion and could have had a goal when O'Brien shot narrowly wide from close range under pressure from Laurissa Hogan and Waterfords net minder Aimee Jordan. Jordan was in action a minute later to deal with a long range shot from O'Brien and O'Brien did level the scores on the 37th minute with a well taken point. Jordan found Keneally from the resultant kick out and Kenneally outpaced the Limerick defenders before laying off the ball for Michelle Ryan to score. Another O'Brien point leveled the score again.
The introduction of Michelle (Hopper) McGrath on the 35th minute had a huge bearing on the outcome of this game, as the Ballymacabry player went on to dominate midfield for the remainder of the match. A point from Sinead Ryan free on forty five minutes restored Waterford's lead. Two goals in three minutes from Niamh Briggs (47 min) and Michelle McGrath (50 min) gave Waterford breathing space.
Limerick narrowed the gap with points from O'Brien (2) and Emer Enright, with Waterford responding with two Briggs points. Limerick were awarded a penalty two minutes from the final whistle when Enright fouled a Limerick forward. Marie Claire Curtin dispatched the penalty low into the corner to narrow the gap to four points.
Munster Ladies President Dan O'Mahoney presented the man of the match award to an emotional Linda Wall. Mary Foley then accepted the cup on behalf of the Waterford Ladies team and in her acceptance speech thanked Saltan Properties for their ongoing support and sponsorship to Waterford Ladies Football.

Munster Intermediate Championship
Waterford will defend their Munster Intermediate Title when they take on Limerick in Castletownroche, Cork, next Saturday, the 4th July, 2010. Waterford won the Munster Intermediate Championship in 2009 , their first title in 8 years, when they beat the holders Clare, on a score line of 2-14 to 2-10 in a cracking match.
Waterford's opponents on Saturday, Limerick, have been building over the last two years. They reached this years Division 4 Final and were narrowly beaten in the 2009 All Ireland Junior Final by Antrim. Limerick's attack will be lead by their All Star Dympna O'Brien and she will be well supported by Irish soccer international, Ann Marie Curtin.
Waterford will go into Saturdays match as clear favourites, having reached this years Division 3 Final. The Ballymacabry sisters, Sinead and Michelle Ryan will lead the Waterford attack, with both in fine scoring form. Waterford's defence, which can look vulnerable at times, improved immensely against Cork in the Semi-Final and should be strong enough to contain the Limerick attack. The team welcomes back Ann Dunphy, Stephanie Power, Eileen Power and Maria Delahunty, after finishing their exams.
Throw-in is 3.00 pm in Castletownroche, Cork next Saturday.

Munster Intermediate Championship
Waterford 4-12 Cork 1-11
Waterford got the defense of their Munster Intermediate Title off to a winning start in Fraher Field on Sunday last, playing in glorious sunshine. Cork started brightly, attacking from the throw-in, however Waterford were first on the scoreboard when Grainne Kenneally got in behind the Cork defense to receive a long ball from Elaine Power and found the bottom of the net in the second minute of the game. Waterford added to their tally a minute later with a Sinead Ryan point.
Cork were well organized and kept in touch with Waterford team that rarely got out of first gear throughout the first half. Waterford's effort was characterized by dropped balls, misplaced passes and the occasional glimpse of the incisive running game that can carve open even the best defense. Five Cork points, three from frees, were matched by two Michelle Ryan frees, a second Sinead Ryan point, and an Elaine Power point. Waterford went into the half-time break 1-5 to 0-5 ahead.
Two early second half Cork points narrowed the deficit to a single point. Waterford quickly re-established their lead with points from Michelle (2) and Sinead Ryan. A Cork goal in the 12th minute from brought Cork back to within a point. The turning point in this game came in the form of two goals midway through the half from Sinead Ryan and points from Michelle Ryan (2) and Kenneally that killed the match off as a contest.
The first goal came when Waterford broke up a Cork attack and Aoife McGovern and Michelle Ryan combined to set up the goal opportunity. The second goal came straight from the kick out when Kenneally won the ball and put an excellent pass through to Ryan. Ryan completed her hat-trick when she finished off a great run by Linda Wall in the 23rd minute
Waterford will take their place in the Munster Final on July 3rd , where their opponents will be Limerick. In the Munster Senior Final, All Ireland Senior Champions Cork will play 2009 All Ireland Intermediate Champions Clare.

Mary Walsh Tournament
The Finals of the 7-A-Side Championship, The Mary Walsh Tournament, took place last Sunday in Modeligo. The tournament is hosted annually by Na Déise Ladies Football Club, in conjunction with the Ladies County Board. Six finals took place on Sunday, with the Ballymacabry Club regaining the Division 1 title, with Sinead Ryan and Aileen Wall proving unstoppable in front of goal for the winners. Their opponents in the final, Tramore, battled well with county star Elaine Power to the fore for the Tramore Club and well assisted by Niamh Walsh and Catherine Power.
In the Division 2, Clashmore took the honours with a convincing win over newly reformed Brickey Rangers. County players Aisling O'Donnell, Edel Wilson, Trish Fitzgerald and Aileen Barron gave the winners that extra bit of speed and fitness. However the sheer class of Cliona O'Keefe in mid-field stood out and hopefully it won't be to long before she returns to the county team. Best for the Brickey's were sisters Clair and Katie Whyte and Deirdre Nugent.
In the Division 3 Final, Stradbally had a narrow win Mount Sion's 2nd team. The other winners on the day were Comeragh Rangers (Division 1 Plate), Mount Sion 1 (Division 2 Plate) and Ardmore (Division 3 Plate).
A special word of thanks to Seamus Skeehan, Carmel Buckley and the Na Déise Club for hosting the event, to the referee's, Edmond Leddington , Sinead Ryan, Katie Barry, Tyler Walsh, Sean Curry and Aimee Jordan, and last but not least to Michelle Walsh, who represented the Walsh family on the day and County Board Chairman, Brendan Gallagher who with Michelle made the presentations to the winning teams.
Adult Championships
The Adult Championship kicks off next weekend with the first round matches in Senior , Intermediate and Junior. The Senior Championship will be contested by Abbeyside, Ballyduff, Ballymacabry, Comeragh Rangers and St Pats. The Intermediate Championship will be contested by Dungarvan, Old Parish and St Anne's, with St Anne's favourites here.
The Junior A Championship looks very competitive with all five teams capable of winning on the day. Clashnore and Tramore might be considered slight favourites, however they will get tough matches from Brickey Rangers, Na Deise and Mt Sion.
The Junior B Championship also looks very competitive with all four teams, Ardmore, Ballysaggart , Shamrocks and Stradbally capable of winning through.

All Ireland U14 Blitz
The Waterford girls were up bright and early on the Saturday morning as they set off for Kinnegad on a three hour journey under the watchful eye of team manager Trish Fitzgerald and trainer Crohan McGregor.
Despite the early start Waterford were quickly into their stride in their opening game against Meath and a goal from Lauren McGregor and points from Lauren Guiry and Mairead Power was enough to see Waterford win on a score-line of 1-2 to 0-2.
Waterford's second game was against old rivals Tipperary and despite excellent scores from Mairead Power, Lauren Guiry, and Aoife Dunne , two second half Tipperary goals settled the game in Tipps favour. F.T. Waterford 0-3 Tipperary 2-0.
Waterford took on Fermanagh in the third game of the tournament and had an easy 7-4 to 1-2 win. Goals from Lauren McGregor (3), Aoife Dunne, Lauren Guiry, Laura Mulcahy, and Mairead Power and points from Aoife Dunne (2) Lauren McGregor, Alice Hahessey.
In their last round robin match Waterford came up against arguably the strongest team in the Division, Louth, who came into the match unbeaten. A magnificent defensive display by the Waterford girls kept a very good Louth forward unit in check and Waterford were unlucky to loose this match on a final score-line of Waterford 2-1 Louth 2-3. The scorers for Waterford were Lauren McGregor (1-0), Laura Mulcahy (1-0), Mairead Power (0-1)
Penalty Shoot Out
With all group games played the table showed that Louth were on top with 4 wins, but as Tipp, Meath and Waterford had all won 2 games each it left us with a 3 way tie. Louth's opposition in the final had to be decided with a penalty shoot out. In the first penalty shoot-out Tipperary beat Meath. In the second penalty shoot out Waterford took on Tipperary. A combination of excellent goal keeping from Roisin Cahillane and coolness from the penalty spot was enough to beat Tipp and go on to play Louth in the final.
The Final
Our girls were well up for this game knowing that they had the ability to beat Louth, but they also knew that this would not be easy. Again our defence was outstanding and although we were tired from a long day our mid-field and forwards kept their work rate up and the pressure on the Louth defence.
Our goalkeeper showed again the potential she has with her near perfect kick outs and brave saves. A solid, hard working defence made life very difficult for the opposition. An inspired work rate from our mid field girls and a confidence in our forwards made sure Waterford weren't in Kinnegad for the day out, we wanted silverware.
At the final whistle Waterford had won by the narrowest of margins on a score-line of Waterford 2-1 Louth 2-1 with scorers Lauren McGregor (2-0) and Shauna Dunphy (0-2) .

National League Final
Waterford 1-10 Cavan 4-13
Waterford Ladies were well beaten by a superior Cavan team in the Bord Gais Division 3 Final in Parnell Park on Saturday last. Waterford playing into a strong breeze started well and were on the scoreboard with a Michelle Ryan free when Grainne Kenneally was fouled on 3 minutes. Waterford suffered a setback when Cavan's Grainne Smith scored their opening goal on 9 minutes with an unstoppable shot from close range. Minutes later Waterford went further behind when they failed to win their own kick-out and Rosie Crowe scored unhindered from 30 metres.
Waterford closed the gap on 10 minutes with another Ryan free and two minutes later Waterford got themselves back into the game when Stephanie Power finished well into the top corner of the net after Linda Wall had opened up the Cavan defense with a good run. Cavan's Grainne Smith and Waterford's Grainne Kennealy kept the score board ticking over for both sides.
Cavan got their second score on 17 minutes when a promising Waterford attack broke down and Cavan moved the ball fast into their forwards. A good run from Cavan's Roisin O'Keefe through the middle of the Waterford defence left Bronagh Sheridan with a close range shot and she finished powerfully to the back of the net. A minute later Cavan's Brid Boylan got through only to be denied by excellent save from Aimee Jordan in the Waterford goal.
However a third Cavan goal on 20 minutes from Roisin O'Keefe, after Waterford had again failed to hold onto possession from a kick-out, saw Cavan take control of the game. Waterford management brought on Louise Ryan for Roisin Tobin on 21 minutes and Aileen Wall on for Stephanie power as they revamped their half back line in an attempt to contain a rampant Cavan half forward line. Waterford did have chances in the closing minutes of the half and points from Michelle and Sinead Ryan narrowed the gap to 5 points at the half time break. (H.T. Waterford 1-5 Cavan 3-4).
A point in the first 15 seconds of the second half from the outstanding Aisling Doonan, saw Cavan open up a six point gap. Waterford added to their tally in the second half with points from Michelle McGrath, Michelle Ryan (3), Sinead Ryan, but never really threatened to close the gap and Cavan finished comfortable 12 point winners.
It's back to the drawing board for the Waterford team as they head into the Munster and Intermediate Championships, which will kick off at the end of June. In addition to Cavan, Waterford will have to overcome Division 2 Champions Donegal, Fermanagh, Longford and Westmeath among others if they are to fulfill their ambition of winning an All Ireland Intermediate Champions this year

Waterford Ladies Win Replay
Waterford 2-10 Fermanagh 1-9
Waterford and Fermanagh met in the replay of the Bord Gais, National League Division 3 Semi-Final in St Peregrines GAA Club, Dublin on Sunday evening last. Fermanagh got into their stride straight from the throw-in and Waterford found themselves a point behind after two minutes when Shauna Hamilton pointed for Fermanagh. Waterford were quick to reply with points from Elaine Power and a Michelle Ryan free.
Fermanagh were made to work hard for their scores, and succeeded in kicking over three further points before Linda Wall got on the score board for Waterford. Up to this point the Waterford attack was not operating with any fluency. However after the Waterford backs had broken up yet another Fermanagh attack, Sinead Ryan was on hand to score the opening goal of the game.
Fermanagh continued to pick off scores and the Waterford forwards were working hard but the inside forward line were making little headway against a resolute Fermanagh defense. Waterford's final score of the half came from a Sinead Ryan free and they went into the half time break a point in arrears. (H.T. Waterford 1-4 Fermanagh 0-8)
Waterford leveled the match on 31 minutes with a Ruth Kirwan point and two minutes later Waterford took the lead through a Michelle McGrath point. Fermanagh got the second goal of the match when Sharon Little latched onto a loose ball close to the goal and finished low into the corner.
Waterford were rattled by the concession of a goal and Fermanagh went flat out to finish the game. Waterford's goalkeeper kept them in the game with a series of excellent saves. Sinead Ryan narrowed the gap to a single point before Fermanagh's Catherine Murphy stretched the lead to 2 points on 52 minutes.
Waterford were playing well and defensively everyone was working very hard to close down the Fermanagh players. However they needed inspiration and up stepped Grainne Kennealy. Kennealy kicked over a 35m free on 56 minutes and a minute later sent a 30m free into the top corner of the net for Waterfords second and decisive goal.
In the final minutes of the match another Keneally point (free) and an Elaine Power point saw Waterford into the League Final. This was a much improved performance by Waterford, particularly in their defensive duties. Elaine Power, Grainne Kenneally, Michelle McGrath, Linda Wall and Grainne Enright shone in what was a good performance by all the Waterford players.
Waterford will now meet Cavan next Saturday in the Bord Gais Division 3 Final in O'Toole Park, Dublin. When they met in the league Cavan were comfortable winners and Waterford will have to improve even further on last Sundays performance if they are to win a National Final for the first time since 2002.

Waterford traveled to Castletownroche last Wednesday to play Kerry in the Munster U16A Semi-Final. For the first 20 minutes of this game Waterford matched their esteemed opponents in all facets of play, except where it counts most, the score-board. Three well taken goals in the space of five minutes and three points late in the half saw Kerry take a 3-8 to 0-3 advantage into the half time break. Waterfords first half scorers were Aoife Landers (0-1) and Aoife Hannon(0-2).
Waterford got up to the pace of the game in the second half and goals from Fiona Morrissey and Aoife Cahillane were the result of a much improved performance. Waterford will now play Tipperary in the Munster U16B Final in July.

Waterford 1-27 (30) Fermanagh 6-12 (30) (AET)
Waterford and Fermanagh played out a high scoring draw in the Bord Gais, National League Division 3 Semi-Final played in Kiltoom, Athlone on Sunday last. Waterford were in the driving seat for most of this game after Grainne Enright scored a goal straight from the throw-in. Playing with the aid of a very strong breeze Waterford went into the half time break 1-14 to 1-2 ahead.
Fermanagh's first score of the match was also a goal, which was finished to the bottom corner of the net by corner forward Mary Cunningham after a strong run from their man of the match Caroline Little. Waterford's cause was helped on 24 minutes when Fermanagh's, Aine McBrien was sin binned for a late tackle on Linda Wall.
Fermanagh moved their all star midfielder Caroline Little to full forward at the start of the second half and Waterford management countered by moving Michelle McGrath to full back. The opening 10 minutes of the second half was very even with three points a piece. Fermanagh got their second goal of the match when Little fielded a high ball on the edge of the small square and rounded McGrath to hit the net from close range.
Waterford continued to push forward and had increased their lead back to 12 points on 37 minutes when Fermanagh got a rather fortuitous third goal. With 5 minutes left on the clock and Waterford 8 points in front Fermanagh's tactic of kicking high balls into Little at full forward paid dividends with two goals in three minutes, one from Little herself and a second from her sister Sharon. Two points in added time saw Fermanagh draw level and send the game into extra time. (F.T. Waterford 1-20 Fermanagh 5-8)
Fermanagh won the toss and choose to play with the wind in the first period of extra time. A Shauna Hamilton free and a long range point from Caroline Little saw Fermanagh go ahead for the first time in the match, with all the momentum behind them. Waterford to their credit dug deep and stemmed the tide. A Linda Wall point and a Michelle Ryan free drew Waterford level.
Waterford suffered a hammer blow on the stroke of half-time (E.T.) when Little fielded majestically on the edge of the small square under intense pressure from the Waterford defense and found the back of the net with an unstoppable shot. A further Fermanagh point from Little saw Waterford trail by 4 points at the break. (H.T. Waterford 1-22 Fermanagh 6-11).
With Michelle McGrath back playing in her more familiar mid-field position Waterford raised their game again and McGrath reduced the deficit to 3 points with a well taken point. Michelle Ryan then proceeded to give a demonstration of free kicking that you would travel miles to see. Three long range frees and a Grainne Kenneally point saw Waterford edge in front again. With seconds left on the clock up popped Caroline Little to save Fermanagh with a well taken point. Ryan had a chance to snatch victory at the death, when she put a long range free from the side-line narrowly wide.
Waterford can go into next week-ends replay knowing that they have the scoring power to win, for in addition to their 28 scores they had 12 wides and hit the post and cross-bar four times in the 80 minutes.

Munster U16 Championship
Tipperary 3-10 Waterford 4-13
Waterford had an excellent win over Tipperary in the Munster U16 Championship in Cahir and earned themselves a Semi-final place against Kerry on Wednesday 28th April. Waterford got into their stride quickly and an Aoife Landers goal and point from Clodagh Walsh gave Waterford a deserved 3 point lead after ten minutes.
Tipperary dominated the next fifteen minutes of the match scoring 1-5, with Waterford only managing a single point from the boot of Aoife Landers. Going into the half time break Waterford narrowed the gap to a single point with two points from Katie Whyte and a Hanna Landers point. The half time score was Tipperary 1-6 Waterford 1-5.
Waterford came out of the dressing room after the half time break a transformed team. Points from Aoife Hannon, Fiona Morrissey and Clodagh Walsh got Waterford going. Goals from Aoife Hannon on 38 minutes and Karen McGrath on 43 minutes put Waterford 8 points ahead and firmly in the driving seat.
Tipperary narrowed the gap to three points midway through the second half, but points from Hanna Landers (2) , Aoife Hannon and Danielle Hallinhan stretched Waterfords lead once again. Tipperary never gave up and scored their third goal on 55 minutes to narrow the gap to two points. However a late goal from Aoife Cahillane and a Clodagh Walsh point saw Waterford savely through to the Munster Semi-Finals.

Waterford V Fermanagh
Waterford play Fermanagh next Sunday in the Bord Gais Energy National League Div 3 S/F in St Brigids Gaa, Kiltoom, County Roscommon. Waterford go into this match on the back of 4 wins, 2 losses and a draw, with the draw being against next Sundays opponents Fermanagh.
This is a very though match to call with very little between the sides. Fermanagh have the experience of last years All Ireland Intermediate Final experience to call on and in the Little sisters they have two of the most lethal forwards at this level.
Waterford reached the National League Div 2 and Intermediate Semi-Finals last year, so they are not wanting when it comes to experience either. Sinead Ryan has been Waterfords main source of scores recently and her sister Michelle can also score freely when close to goal.
This match will come down to how both teams defend and big performances from key players such as Michelle McGrath, Grainne Kenneally, Nora Dunphy and Elaine Power will be required on the day. Waterford know that the will have to put in the best performance of the year if they are to reach their first League Final since 2002.
11-A-Side League
The League Semi-Finals will take place next weekend and the finals are scheduled for Sunday 9th May.

Waterford Ladies Football - 12th April 2010
Waterford 1-6 Cavan 0-12
Waterford suffered their second defeat in the Bord Gais National League Div 3, when they were beaten by table toppers Cavan in Walsh Park on Sunday. In near perfect weather conditions, Waterford playing with a strong breeze opened the scoring on 7 minutes with a Sinead Ryan point. A minute later Stephanie Power doubled Waterford's score when she finished a fine Waterford move.
Waterford didn't score again until the 28th minute when a long ball from Roisin Tobin out of the Waterford defence found Aileen Wall and she sent a lovely ball over the top of the Cavan defence to sister Linda, who finished into the net in style. Sinead Ryan got another point on 30 minutes and her third score of the match when she pointed after a good penetrating run by Elaine Power a minute later.
Michelle Ryan finished the Waterford scoring for the first half when she pointed a 13m free deep in injury time. Cavan's only scores in the first half came from Aisling Doonan on 14 minutes and a Bronagh Sheridan free kick in the last minute of the first half. (H.T. Waterford 1-5 Cavan 0-2).
Waterford started the second half brightly and saw their first two attempts go wide. Cavan opened the scoring in the second half with an Aisling Doonan pointed free on the 39th minute. A minute later Waterfords goal keeper pushed a powerful shot from Cavans number 11, Roisin O'Keefe, onto the crossbar, however Cavan's Claire Murtagh was first to react and sent the ball over the bar to narrow the gap.
Cavan's half forward line were dominating play and in the next 10 minutes added a further three points to their tally. A tactical substitution by Waterford on 50 minutes saw Aoife McGovern replace Grainne Enright with Elaine Power moving to wing back and Linda Wall to mid-field.
Indeed McGovern was unlucky to see her low shot on 52 minutes well saved by the Cavan keeper. However Cavan continued to apply the pressure scoring three further points before the final whistle. Waterford's only score of the second half was a Michelle Ryan free in injury time.
Cavan deserved their win as they were able to take their long range points and their superior fitness was very evident in the final 10 minutes of the game. Waterford found it difficult to counteract the Cavan tactics which left acres of space in front of the Waterford goal and except for some excellent defending by the Waterford full back line and goalkeeper the score line could have read a lot worse.
Waterford will now play Fermanagh and Cavan will play Wexford in the Semi-Finals in two weeks time.

Munster Minor Championship
Tipperary 0-15 Waterford 1-8
Waterford Minors were unlucky to loose this very competitive Munster Minor Championship match played in Lattin, Tipperary. Tipperary, blitzed Waterford in the opening 10 minutes of the game, scoring three points and it looked like it was going to be a very one sided game. However Waterford's corner forward Hannah Landers got two opportunities in the opening quarter and scored two excellent points to keep her team in touch.
The first half was very much a backs to the wall effort with the full back line of Roisin Tobin, Clare White, Brid Cooney and Goalkeeper Roisin Cahillane playing out of their skins to keep Tipperary at bay. At the other end of the pitch the exquisite place kicking of Maria Delahunty ( 0-2f, 1-0p) and a Faun Duggan point saw Waterford go into the half time break level. H.T. Tipperary 0-8 Waterford 1-5.
A Maria Delahunty point in the opening minute of the second half saw Waterford take the lead for the first time. Waterford had a number of chances to stretch their lead in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, however a combination of poor shooting and excellent goalkeeping by the Tipp keeper let Tipperary off the hook.
Tipperary responded by putting over three points in a row to move into the lead again. To their credit Waterford came back at Tipperary again with their team captain Aileen Wall and midfielder Dearbhla Hayes playing absolutely brilliantly. Another Delahunty pointed free and a Fiona Morrissey point saw Waterford draw level again going into the final 10 minutes of the game.
Waterford defended in depth in the second half with the half back line of Clodagh Walsh, Eibhlin Power and Karen McGrath breaking up the Tipperary attacks time after time. In the forwards Racheal Walsh's and Aileen Wall's speed and distribution was stretching the Tipperary defence. Four unanswered points by Tipperary in the last ten minutes of the game secured victory for the home team.

This match is scheduled for Sunday at 2.00 pm in Walsh Park.
