Munster Super Touch Blitzes

Last weekend across Munster there were a number of U15 Super Touch Hurling and Gaelic Football blitzes. Waterford was well represented with 9 Hurling and 3 Football clubs taking part with 4 of the blitzes taking place in De La Salle, Cappoquin, The Nire and Abbeyside/Ballinacourty with Clonea, Kilrossanty, Mt Sion, Tramore, Passage, Butlerstown, Ballyduff Lower & Ardmore also taking part. With the winning team in each group of 4 going forward to the finals day in Mallow the action was good and competitive. De La Salle, The Nire and Abbeyside/Ballinacourty all won their groups and will go forward to the finals on the 24th Sept and we wish them well. Well done to all clubs who participated in the blitzes.

Roanmore Charity Hurling Blitz a huge success

A wonderful day was had on Saturday for the 15th Roanmore Charity Hurling Blitz. From 10am until 7pm the action was ongoing in De La Salle, Roanmore and Mt Sion pitches with 144 teams taking part this year. Over 1700 U8 & U9 players took part in the blitz with everything running like clockwork all day. Thanks to all the guest coaches who showed up to present medals to the young players.

The games were all refereed by the new Go Games Referees who were excellent on the day and the support they got from coaches and players alike was much appreciated. A great amount of money was raised for the SOLAS Centre and the presentation will take place in the coming weeks.

Development Squads Report - Win for U15 Highlight of Weekend

A busy weekend was had by all involved in the Development Squads in Waterford with 6 teams in action on Saturday and Sunday in various venues across the province. All teams performed well at the various tournaments and huge gratitude is due to the mentors of all teams for the work they have put in over the last while.

U14 Tony Forristal

Based in Walsh Park the U14 team got their campaign going with a tough battle against near neighbours Kilkenny. The game was a close fought affair from start to finish with no one team dominating the game. After a hectic game where both sides showed a good degree of skill a draw was probably a fair result on a final scoreline of Waterford 1-6 Kilkenny 0-9. Next up for the Deise boys were Tipperary and again it was a tight battle. Knowing they had to win to stay in the hunt for a final place Waterford gave their all but on the day Tipp proved a little too string and won by 0-12 to 0-8. This left Waterford out of the reckoning for a final place and in the last game against Wexford the visitors proved too strong and won by 1-11 to 1-4.

U14 Sonny Walsh

De La Salle Gracedieu was the venue for the U14 Sonny Walsh team as they competed against Dublin, Tipp & Limerick. First up was Limerick where Waterford made a great start and were 3 pts up within 10 mins. A Limerick goal got them going and a 2nd goal halfway through the 2nd half ensured a Limerick victory. That left Waterford needing to beat both Tipperary and Dublin to have any chance of progressing but despite some excellent performances by a number of players in the games Waterford could not get the required victories.

U15 Carrigdhoun Tournament

An early start for Waterford where they had to play 4 group games. Wins over Cork, Clare and Tipperary were secured with some excellent hurling and fine score taking by the players. A defeat against Limerick left a 3 way tie with Limerick and Cork and on countback Waterford and Cork qualified for the final with the Ted Hanley Memorial Cup on offer for the winners. A high quality game ensued with good standard from both sides but at the end it was not to be as the hosts Cork won on a final scoreline of Cork 2-13 Waterford 2-9.

U15 Munster Tournament (Clare)

Waterford's 2nd team traveled to Clarecastle in Co Clare to compete against Kerry and Tipperary in the group stages. A fantastic victory over the Kingdom where they got 6 goals set up a group decided against Tipp. However Tipp were on top and won through to the Cup Final leaving Waterford to play Limerick in the Shield Final. A close fought game ensued with Waterford getting the vital goal to just edge out the Treaty men 1-8 to 0-9. A great win for the Waterford lads and congratulations to them all. It is always nice to have a trophy and medal at the end of the season and the players and management were delighted to win this one. Well done to all.

U16 Tipp Supporters Club A

Paired with Laois and Kilkenny hopes were high of getting to the semi finals and they hopes were realised with 2 excellent victories setting up a semi final against Limerick. After a very tight 1st half it looked like this one could go to the wire with Waterford 1-8 to 0-7 up. However Waterford really upped the tempo in the 2nd half and outscored Limerick by 7pts to 1. This meant Waterford were heading for Semple Stadium to play against Cork in the final on Sunday. Cork opened brightly in the final and Waterford took a while to get going with some tired legs from Saturday. Cork led by 15 to 5 at half time but a spirited Waterford team refused to lay down and out hurled Cork in the 2nd half. However the gap was too far and Cork won by 1-18 to 1-10 in the end. Even in defeat the Deise boys could hold their heads high and be proud of their efforts

U16 Tipp Supporters Club B

Waterford made the trip to Templederry to play against Cork and Limerick in the group stages. A bright start against Limerick with Waterford ahead at half time gave encouragement but a comeback from Limerick meant the game ended all square 1-6 to 0-9. Waterford's 2nd game against a strong Cork side didn't go so well with the rebels to strong and ending Waterford's interest in the competition, however a number of players showed up well and hopefully can build on the experience.

Roanmore Charity Hurling Blitz

This year's Roanmore Charity Hurling Blitz takes place on Sat 10th September. Fixtures and times will be sent to all clubs in the next week. This year there will be over 120 teams taking part on the day in Mt Sion, De La Salle and Roanmore pitches. As ever the blitz will be for U8 & U9 players. Special guest are being lined up for the day. Full fixtures are available on www.itservices.ie/blitz
