25.07.10 | Longford 3-23 Roscommon 1-6 | By Padraic O'Brien
Treacy won a lot of possession to fire over a total of seven points, six in a superb second half display, while others to figure prominently in a slick attack were Fiona Gettings (2-3) and Edel Quinn (0-4) while newcomer Sarah Tierney made a very bright start to the game with three well struck scores to her credit.
Longford had built up a commanding 2-4 to 0-0 lead (the other point coming from Gettings, nee Blessington) before Roscommon eventually opened their account in the 14th minute from a free converted by their most dangerous forward Emer Casey and the same player was on target from play moments later.
But the home county quickly regained the upper hand in adding another seven points to their tally during the remainder of the first half, the result of many excellent moves, while Sarah Tierney was most unfortunate not to score a goal when hitting the post in the 21st minute.
The Longford points came from Ann Marie Bratten (2), Edel Quinn (3), Anna McDonnell and Sharon Treacy while Emer Casey (2) and Natalie McHugh replied for Roscommon who trailed by 2-11 to 0-5 at the break and the game was over as a contest.
The shooting practice continued in the second half as Longford clocked up a further 1-12, the goal coming from Fiona Gettings in the 39th minute after linking up so effectively with midfielder Elizabeth Brady. The post denied Gettings a goal with a minute gone on the changeover while substitute Orla Noonan had a shot cleared off the line late in the game.
The Longford points came from Fiona Gettings (2), Sharon Treacy (6), Edel Quinn, Michelle Ross and substitutes Alice Magan and Mary Kiernan while all Roscommon could manage in the second half was 1-1, the point coming from a free converted by Emer Casey (43 mins) while Niamh Ward fired home a consolation goal in the final minute of the game.
