Longford minors ended their Connacht Minor League campaign with a defeat to neighbours Roscommon at Pearse Park on Saturday evening last.

Playing into the wind Roscommon opened the scoring with a point from Colin Compton. Longford replied with a Padraig McCormack effort and a Mark Hughes free.

A James McGIvney point cancelled out the first of seven frees pointed by Roscommon to leave the sides tied on three points each after fifteen minutes.

Roscommon briefly held the lead taking advantage of some poor Longford defending before Mark Hughes finished to the back of the net from close range to give the home side a 1-3 to 0-4 lead.

Both sides exchanged points before the half time interval to leave the score reading; 1 -5 to 0-7 in Longford's favour.

Longford made four changes at half time, and for a time briefly held a four point lead (2-8 to 0-10) when James Noonan converted a well taken penalty.

This penalty was the turning point of the game as Longford challenge collapsed and Roscommon went on to score 2-4 including a penalty to Longford's solitary point, to leave the final score of reading; 2-14 to 2-9.
