Marie McCormack wins Leinster Scor title

A Killoe woman sang her heart out at the Leinster Senior Scór finals last weekend earning her a coveted place in this year's All Ireland Senior Scór Finals at the end of April as a solo singer.

Marie McCormack, the daughter of Jimmy and Mary McCormack, has been singing since the tender age of four and has taken part in both Junior and Senior Scór for many years both as a solo act and in teams in the Ballad Group section.

However last weekend was the first time the 24 year old won a Leinster title. She told the Leader: "I am absolutely delighted to have won a Leinster title. Scór has been a fantastic social outlet for me over the years. Every year you meet the same people from counties all over Ireland and it's just such a friendly event. There's no sense of competition there at all – we just all get on so well."

Marie will now compete against singers from all over the country in the Solo Singing category of the All Ireland Senior Scór Finals which will take place in the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney on April 24 next. It will be a busy month for the trainee teacher as she is about to complete her final exams in the Hibernia national school teaching course as well.

The Secretary of the Longford Scór Committee, Margaret Farrell told the Leader she is delighted with Marie's achievement. "She did fantastically well. The other performers also did very well also but it was Marie who managed to take home the silverware for County Longford this year."

As Longford are only allocated a limited number of tickets for the All Ireland Senior Scor finals, please contact Margaret Farrell on 087-2363237 before April 8 to reserve tickets at a cost of 22 euro each.
