Longford GAA Night at the Dogs
Slashers are tops at the Longford GAA Dog
Night
Longford GAA went to the dogs on Friday
night when they took over the Longford Dog Track for a memorable and a very
enjoyable fundraising event.
Many of the Longford Clubs’ were
represented on the night at the “Longford GAA Fastest Club Team”, on the night
the clubs raced against each other with the winners from each race advancing to
the grand final, involving Colmcille, St. Columba’s, Longford Slashers, St.
Patrick’s, Carrickedmond and Cashel.
The winners on the night was the Longford
Slashers team, made up of four of the young crop of ‘sky blues’ namely,
starting was the red haired man himself Ruairi Barrins while the cool, calm
Sean Flynn took over at position two while Paul Kelly (he’d beat most
greyhounds) was in third position and in the finish was the Mr Muscle himself
Paul Devine, who strolled over the finish line … well not literally.
Great credit must go to Glenn Ryan,
assisted by big Jim Maguire and the entire Longford panel and their
girlfriends, wives and partners and all who helped out on the night, a night
that proved a tremendous success with many well-known faces from our clubs
attending on the night and a big thank you to them all and the original Punter
himself (Padraic O’Brien) was also there.
Special guest on the night was Paul Collins
of Today FM while our own John Duffy did a wonderful job on commentary. Thanks
to all at Longford Dog Track.
Finally, it was great to see the age
difference between members of the teams from each club, from 15 to I think
around 30 and I think going by the crowd on the night, this will (hopefully)
become a regular event . . . thankfully there was no controversial decisions or
appeals on the night!!!
THANKS TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED
