Dromard and Colmcille scoop Leinster Scór titles
By Ailbhe Gillespie
Two north Longford Scór teams have done their county proud by earning Leinster titles at the Leinster Scor na nÓg Final in Ballymore in Co Westmeath last weekend.
The Dromard Instrumental Music Group which consists of Laura (10) and Liam Doherty (13), whose parents are Rosie and Sean, Cillian Hourican (13), the son of Lorna and Paul, Hannah McEntee (13), the daughter of Pauline and Dermott, and Maria Matthews, whose parents are Anne and Tony, were one of the County Longford winners on the day.
The second talented group of youths who won a Leinster title were the Colmcille Novelty Act. Ross (15) and Carl McNerney (8), the sons of Lil and Marty, and Vinnie Hourican, the son of Theresa and JP, wowed the judges with their comedy skit.
The Colmcille group had to come up with a new sketch which revolved around a character in a wheelchair when Ross broke his leg playing football for Drumlish Gaels Utd a few weeks ago.
The trio also had a little help from Ross and Carl's sisters Kate and Patricia, who helped co-ordinate the skit. The group also want to thank Jackie Flanagan, who made sure they made it to all their rehearsals and competitions on time as their chauffeur.
Lorna Hourican, the mother of Cillian Hourican, one of the successful competitors in the Dromard Instrumental Music Group says that the group would not be the success it is today without the help of their music teacher Padraig Lynch and the dedication of all of the parents involved.
Co Longford Scór Secretary Margaret Farrell told the Leader she is immensely proud of the two groups who won Leinster titles and of all the competitors who took part in Longford Scór this year.
