Kilmacud Crokes 2-6  Ballyboden St Endas 1-4

The girls started their league campaign on a windy but dry day in Sancta Maria College against a strong Ballyboden team. Previous league encounters between these teams have always been very tight. After losing the toss we started with a strong wind at our backs but managed to concede a goal straight from the throw in. We came back into it through an Aoife Doran goal and some determined play from our half back line of Kim Farren, Sinead Belton and Jennifer Cooke. We considered ourselves unlucky to go in at half time only two points to the good as we hit the post 3 times in a hectic first half. The general feeling was that we needed to be further in front facing into the wind. However two quick points after half time through Julia Buckley and Mia Jennings put us four up but that signaled a strong comeback from Boden who kicked four great long range scores in a row to level the match with ten minutes to go. At this point we really dug in and managed to get control of midfield with Robin Kos also coming into the game strongly. Julia put us a point up and then a late blast of 1-1 in two minutes from super sub Tuathla Greene sealed victory in a very sporting match that could have gone either way. This was a real team performance built on strong defence from Saoirse Reade in goal to the full back line capably marshaled by Muireann O'Gorman. The half back line listed above were superb throughout and midfield worked tirelessly. Upfront Caoilinn O'Ceallaigh, Robin Kos, Aoife Doran and Laura Kane stood out. All in all a good start to the campaign.
