Kilmaine took the lead early in the game with two frees from Paul Doherty, but Belmullet began to win possession and soon evened up the scores. Some hard tackles went in from both sides and a couple of yellow cards were shown, Belmullet began to break through the Kilmaine defence and got some good points from play. Kilmaine added one more point to their scoreline and the first half ended at 0-8 to 0-3 in favour of Bellmullet.
The wind was with Belmullet in the second half and Kilmaine struggled to close the gap. A bad tackle from a Belmullet man ment a straight red for him and Jaralth McDonagh had to come off by stretcher. A couple of minutes later on the opposite end Gerard Doherty got a second yellow and the teams were 14 men a piece. It looked like Kilmaine were out of luck when a they got a goal and a couple of pints to bring them within 4 of Belmullet. A penalty was then given to Kilmaine which would have brought them within 1. Paul Doherty stepped up but a great save from the keeper denied him. A collision between Doherty and the belmullet no.11 got Doherty a red card and Kilmaines luck finally ran out.
The final score in Westport was 0-14 to 1-5
