Lastyears beaten All-Ireland finalists Mayo proved much too strong forTipperary in yesterdays ESB All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at OConnorPark, Tullamore.

First half goals from Alex Corduff and DarrenCoen, and another from Cillian OConnor midway through the second half,paved the way for a comfortable victory for the Westerners, who willnow face either Dublin or Down for a place in the All-Ireland final.

RayDempseys side led by 2-4 to 1-2 at half-time with their goals comingin the 11th and 20th minutes. The goals from Corduff and Coen hadhelped them to a 2-2 to 0-1 lead before Eddie Kendricks 23rd minutegoal handed Tipperary a lifeline.

The winners extended theiradvantage on the restart thanks to scores from Jack McDonnell andCillian OConnor. Johnny McMahon clawed back a couple of points fromfrees for David Powers Tipp side before Cillian OConnor put theresult beyond doubt with Mayos third major 13 minutes from the end.
