Good News!
[uploaded: 21 November 2010] Its easy to forget when we focus on our competitive fixtures that we are brought together by our enjoyment of the sport of hockey.
With so many sports competing for the hearts and minds of kids and adults, we have to be proud of the fun, friendships and good times that Munster hockey brings us.
So this is a place where we can share stories of sportsmanship, fair play, hospitality, solidarity, thank yous, good days/night out, great photos, kids having a ball, volunteers going above & beyond the call of duty etc. so we can all be proud of the Munster hockey experience!
We play an outdoor sport, throughout the winter, 15 degrees below the Arctic Circle! We wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't fun!
Great photo above by Ondine Roche shows Vicky O'Sullivan, UCC greeting a former team-mate from Ashton after the last league match of the season in Mount Mercy. Pretty sure its Eimear O'Brien, but someone in Ashton will confirm?!

Men's Hockey Growing in Waterford & UCC [uploaded: 21 November 2010]
Men's hockey in Munster made a welcome return to Waterford on Sunday when the reformed Waterford Hockey Club Men's team played a friendly against UCC MHC.
It was an opportunity for many returning past masters from Waterford to test themselves against the youthful students. A concerted effort by Stuart Greene (formerly of Limerick HC) has seen the players train weekly at Newtown School and they were delighted to receive, and despatch, their first challengers with some well worked second half goals.
It was a genuine sporting affair, played in front of curious members of Waterford and Ashton ladies who had just completed a Div 2 cup match, as the students downed their books for the afternoon to travel across the county border and Waterford HC repayed the favour with their hospitality in the Three Ships afterwards.
UCC continue to introduce adult beginners to the sport, and this year has been expectional in terms of the numbers interested in playing. A total of 14 absolute beginners regularly train twice a week with the college men and their progress has been exceptional.
UCC fielded a team with no less than 5 players who hadnt played a Munster Senior League game before this season, and four of them had never even played hockey before October of this year! Club numbers have risen from 35 regular players in 2009 to nearly 60 in 2010 under the guidance of Club Captain Paul Gleeson.
