Training course for new refereeing recruits;
Runai, A Chara
I am writing to remind you that the next training course for new refereeing recruits will begin on Monday 1st February 2009, commencing at 7.30 pm sharp, in the Burrendale Hotel, Newcastle. The course will continue on Saturday 6th February commencing at 10.00 am continuing on Monday 8th, finishing on Monday 15th February culminating with an examination of the rules on the final night.
Monday night 8th February will cater solely for child protection. Attendance on this night will be mandatory for all trainees and any one missing this module will be unable to qualify as an underage referee. A fitness test for new referees will be arranged with them on the first night.
To qualify as a referee, trainees must attend the child protection element and pass both the examination of the rules and the fitness test.
I would appeal to those clubs who are still not meeting their commitment to refereeing to avail of this opportunity to comply with the An Coiste Chontae directive regarding the supply of referees.
I would ask those clubs submitting the names of people for training to please ensure that the person being nominated has agreed to let their name be submitted, that they attend the full course and are committed to refereeing on a regular basis.
I would also remind you that if you have a referee in your club who has not been active during the past season and wishes to return to refereeing in the coming season, or if you are intending to invite a referee from another county to represent your club next season, then they must also attend the training course and pass the examination of the rules before being appointed to fixtures.
We also invite clubs to submit the names of youth members over the age of 16 years who would be interested in refereeing U10, U11 blitz tournaments or Go games next season. This will be an ideal setting for potential young club members to sample refereeing in a less competitive setting.
A short training course will be offered to those young referees in an informal setting separate from the full referees training course. Depending on the numbers involved these courses can be offered at either a central venue, a number of regional venues or within your own club.
If young people from your club has already completed the young whistlers course you should encourage them to consider now completing this full referees course.
I invite you to bring this letter to the attention of your youth activities coordinator or youth team mentors in addition to the full committee.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those clubs who sent trainees to previous courses.
I look forward to receiving your nominees as soon as possible and hope that we have a successful course.
