Mayo U-14 Cup Final

Swinford came from behind to secure the Mayo U-14 Cup for the first time since 2006 in a game which saw some sublime goals fitting of the occasion. Coincidentally Swinford faced the same opposition that they beat in 2006 on Saturday afternoon.
In an exhilarating opening few minutes it was Castlebar who took the lead thanks to a stunning effort from midfielder Fintan Borotto. The ball fell to Borotto thirty yards out from goal and he caught it on the bounce to smash an unstoppable effort into the top corner which all supporters appreciated with huge applause.
Castlebar didn't hold the lead for long as centre back David Brady scored a superb captains goal for Swinford. Adam Campbell's corner kick was partially cleared but Brady caught the ball on the volley from the edge of the box and sent it into the top corner.
The hugely lively Adam Campbell was sent through on goal by the impressive Peter Mc Nicholas on the half hour but he shot just wide. It didn't take Campbell much longer to find his goal, and he did it superbly. Awarded a free kick on the left wing, from all of thirty five yards out, nobody expected the small striker to shoot. But make no mistake, he meant to score as he hit a powerful shot into the far top corner.
After the break Campbell doubled his tally with a poachers goal from inside the six yard box after he got on the end of a Martin Walsh cross to turn the ball home. Campbell turned provider moments later as he sent Peter Mc Nicholas through on goal but the winger shot narrowly wide, which would have put the game beyond doubt. Walsh also came close for Swinford when he was played down the wing by Conor Conway but his effort sailed wide.
But the midfielder got the goal his all action performance deserved when Campbell slipped a superb through ball his way and Walsh outpaced the defence before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Swinford's best performers on the day were Adam Campbell, Martin Walsh and Joshua Smith, while Borotto, Colm Quinn and Gavin Durkin performed admirably for runners up.
